Varadero is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and Cuba's main sun and beach tourist destination. Visiting it is a challenge and an opportunity to be in contact with one of the tourist wonders of the Caribbean island.

I have always longed to visit it and, although I have been there two or three times, I longed to visit it again. In truth it was a dream because my retired finances do not allow me to go there, but a miracle happened and for my birthday I was given a gift: A weekend in Varadero, Cuba.

For those who do not know Varadero is located in the province of Matanzas, in the western part of the Cuban archipelago and less than three hours from Havana, the capital of all Cubans.

Its beaches are located in the north of the country and its waters are clean and crystalline.

When we arrived at the Kawuama Club hotel, she looked more like a little girl being bought a toy than a mature woman. The wait to get into the room seemed like ages and, although my favorite places to go are all about the water, i.e. pool and beach, I wanted to leave my bags in the room so I could rest and go downstairs for a refreshing swim.

The hotel is modest, compared to other hotels in the resort it is not one of the best, but I appreciate it anyway because it has been immense the effort my husband had to make for this which has been one of the best birthday gifts I have been given throughout my 60 years of life.

It was time to check in and we were given the beloved manillas, which are the ones that identify you and give you the possibility to access all the hotel services, which for us Cubans is providential because we are not used to these luxuries.

After the handle we went to the room where we only left our briefcases and then we went to walk around the hotel to eat something, visualize the main services provided by the facility, have a few beers and warm up.

My husband and I went with a couple that works with him. Two young people with very good manners who would make this adventure more enjoyable for us.

The first tour of the hotel was very productive because we managed to have a snack, I was able to swim at the beach and then come to the pool. While doing this my husband had a beer and the young couple was enjoying themselves and having fun with the conversation they were having and the things in life.

I thought everything was great. However, I didn't know what I was in for. It turns out that on the reservation they know your birthday and when we went to dinner they made me a surprise meal, gave me a bottle of sparkling wine and other gifts courtesy of the hotel.

It was one of the best birthdays of my life. It is true that I could not enjoy the company of my two children because they are living out of the country, but my husband and his co-workers made me forget all the problems and gave me the best day of this 2023.

Sus playas se encuentran al norte del país y sus aguas son limpias y cristalinas.

Cuando llegamos al hotel Club Kawuama, parecía más que una mujer madura una niña a la que le compran un juguete. La espera para entrar a la habitación me parecía siglos y, aunque mis lugares favoritos tienen que ver con el agua, es decir, piscina y playa quería dejar los maletines en la habitación para poder descansar y bajar a darme un baño refrescante.

El hotel es modesto, comparado con otros hoteles del complejo turístico no es de los mejores, pero lo agradezco igual porque ha sido inmenso el esfuerzo que tuvo que hacer mi esposo para este que ha sido uno de los mejores regalos de cumpleaños que me han obsequiado a lo largo de mis 60 años de vida.

Llegó el momento del hospedaje y nos pusieron las queridas manillas que son las que te identifican y te dan la posibilidad de acceder a todos los servicios del hotel y que para nosotros los cubanos es providencial porque no estamos acostumbrados a estos lujos.

Después de la manilla nos dirigimos a la habitación en la que solo dejamos los maletines y enseguida nos fuimos a recorrer el hotel para comer algo, visualizar los principales servicios que brinda la instalación, tomarnos unas cervezas y entrar en calor.

Mi esposo y yo nos fuimos con una un matrimonio que trabaja con él. Dos jóvenes de muy buenas costumbres y que nos harían más agradable esta aventura.

El primer recorrido por el hotel fue muy productivo porque logramos merendar algo, pude bañarme en la playa y después venir a la piscina. Mientras hacía esto mi esposo se tomaba una cerveza y la pareja de jóvenes disfrutaba y se divertían de la conversación que tenían y de las cosas de la vida.

Pensé que todo estaba de maravilla. Sin embargo, no sabía lo que me esperaba. Resulta que en la reservación ellos saben el día de tu cumpleaños y cuando fuimos a cenar me hicieron una comida sorpresa, me regalaron una botella de vino espumoso y otros obsequios cortesía del hotel.

Ha sido uno de los mejores cumpleaños de mi vida. Es cierto que no pude disfrutar de la compañía de mis dos hijos porque están viviendo fuera del país, pero mi esposo y sus compañeros de trabajo me hicieron olvidar todos los problemas y me regalaron el mejor de los días de este 2023.
