Hola, espero que se encuentren muy bien. Hace rato ya no pasaba por aquí, pero estoy de vuelta y con muchas experiencias que contarles. En esta oportunidad quiero contarles acerca de un paseo que hice recientemente. Actualmente vivo en Colombia, específicamente en Bogotá. Bogotá es una ciudad grandiosa, ruidosa, agobiante, espectacularmente llamativa, así que cuando se tiene la oportunidad de alejarse un poco del ruido, no se debe desperdiciar.
Hello, I hope you are all doing well. It's been a while since I've been here, but I'm back and have lots of experiences to share with you. This time, I want to tell you about a trip I took recently. I currently live in Colombia, specifically in Bogotá. Bogotá is a great city, noisy, overwhelming, spectacularly striking, so when you have the opportunity to get away from the noise a little, you shouldn't waste it.
Boyacá es un departamento cerca de esta hermosa metrópolis, se compone de maravillosos y mágicos pueblitos que esconden historia, tradiciones y cultura. En este caso tomé un tour con la agencia WAKU, ellos ofrecen diferentes pasadas, es decir, paseos de un solo día y paseos de varios días. El tour que realicé consistió en visitar varios pueblos de Boyacá, específicamente Chocontá, Ráquira, Sutamarchán y Villa de Leyva.
Boyacá is a department near this beautiful metropolis, made up of wonderful and magical little towns that hide history, traditions, and culture. In this case, I took a tour with the WAKU agency, which offers different trips, i.e., single-day trips and trips lasting several days. The tour I took consisted of visiting several towns in Boyacá, specifically Chocontá, Ráquira, Sutamarchán, and Villa de Leyva.
Este tour tiene dos costos, el plan 1 sin desayuno que cuesta 90.000 cop o 23.50$ americanos y el otro que cuesta 100.000 cop o 26.10$ americanos. Estos costos tienen descuento si vas en pareja. Nuestra aventura empieza a las 6:00 am, la agencia estipula puntos de encuentro para buscar a las personas. Nuestra primera parada es en el Embalse de Sisga, el cual es una importante represa construida entre 1948 y 1951. Se encuentra a 55 km de Bogotá, específicamente en Chocontá, Cundinamarca. El objetivo de la construcción de esta represa es controlar las inundaciones y abastecer de agua a la capital. Esta represa es un destino turístico, muchas personas van a hacer senderismo, deportes náuticos, camping, entre otros. Este lugar hay libre acceso, no tiene ningún costo, sin embargo, si hay mucho frío o tienes hambre, puedes comprar cafecito, arepitas, agua panela, entre otros.
This tour has two prices: plan 1 without breakfast costs 90,000 COP or $23.50 USD, and the other costs 100,000 COP or $26.10 USD. These prices are discounted if you go as a couple. Our adventure begins at 6:00 a.m., and the agency stipulates meeting points to pick people up. Our first stop is at the Sisga Reservoir, an important dam built between 1948 and 1951. It is located 55 km from Bogotá, specifically in Chocontá, Cundinamarca. The purpose of this dam is to control flooding and supply water to the capital. This dam is a tourist destination, and many people go there for hiking, water sports, camping, and other activities. This place is freely accessible at no cost, but if it is very cold or you are hungry, you can buy coffee, arepas, agua panela, and others.
Luego de visitar el embalse, tomamos un rico desayuno en un lugar llamado Laguna Verde, para los que pagaron la pasadía con el desayuno incluido tienen dos opciones: caldo de costilla o tamales, ambos platos vienen con chocolate caliente, queso y pan. Es un desayuno típico de la región y muy rico.
After visiting the reservoir, we had a delicious breakfast at a place called Laguna Verde. For those who paid for the day trip with breakfast included, there are two options: rib soup or tamales, both dishes come with hot chocolate, cheese, and bread. It is a typical breakfast of the region and very tasty.
Nuestra segunda parada fue en el Puente de Boyacá. Este lugar es un homenaje a la batalla que se libró en ese lugar, la cual lleva el mismo nombre. En este lugar podemos escuchar la historia de este suceso, visitar monumentos hechos a Santander y Bolívar y entrar al museo de la Batalla de Bogotá. Este lugar no tiene costo de entrada, tiene muchas áreas verdes, las mascotas son bienvenidas y hay un pequeño lugar para desayunar.
Our second stop was at the Boyacá Bridge. This place pays tribute to the battle that took place there, which bears the same name. Here, we can hear the story of this event, visit monuments dedicated to Santander and Bolívar, and enter the Battle of Bogotá museum. There is no entrance fee, it has many green areas, pets are welcome, and there is a small place to have breakfast.
Luego de esta segunda parada, emprendemos el viaje al pueblo de Ráquira. En este pueblo la economía depende de la venta de artesanías que ofrecen sus ciudadanos. Las casas son coloridas, con fachadas hermosas donde podrás tomar maravillosas fotos de recuerdo. En este pueblo puedes comprar jarrones, ruanas, sweaters tejidos, sombreros, artículos hechos en madera, souvenirs como llaveros o imanes de neveras, dulces tradicionales como la gelatina de pata o los dulces de leche.
After this second stop, we will continue our journey to the town of Ráquira. The economy of this town depends on the sale of handicrafts made by its citizens. The houses are colorful, with beautiful facades where you can take wonderful souvenir photos. In this town, you can buy vases, ruanas, knitted sweaters, hats, wooden items, souvenirs such as key chains or refrigerator magnets, and traditional sweets such as "gelatina de pata or "dulce de leche".

En la plaza del pueblo puedes hacer tu propia artesanía sin costo, pero es importante colaborar con los artesanos y dejar una propina por los materiales usados, de igual manera puedes disfrutar de la hermosa música boyacense y visitar la iglesia del pueblo. Este lugar es un poco caluroso, por lo que no necesitarás tanto abrigo, en esta parada los organizadores del tour nos dieron un refrigerio (papitas, jugo y una fruta), incluido en el costo del viaje.
In the town square, you can make your own crafts at no cost, but it is important to collaborate with the artisans and leave a tip for the materials used. You can also enjoy the beautiful music of Boyacá and visit the town church. This place is a bit warm, so you won't need to bring a coat. At this stop, the tour organizers gave us a snack (chips, juice, and fruit), which was included in the cost of the trip.
El almuerzo fue en un pueblo llamado Sutamarchán, famoso por ser fabricante de longanizas. Encontrarás muchos locales que venden picadas (cerdo, rellena, longaniza, papa y arepa boyacense) que varían los precios según el tamaño. También hay otro tipo de comidas como pechuga de pollo, carne, entre otros. Sin embargo, lo más popular es pedir la picada con longaniza. Nosotros éramos tres personas, por lo que pedimos una picada para esa cantidad y refrescos, para un total de 81.800.
Lunch was in a town called Sutamarchán, famous for its sausage production. You'll find many places selling picadas (pork, rellena, sausage, potatoes, and Boyacá-style arepas) with prices varying according to size. There are also other types of food available, such as chicken breast and beef, among others. However, the most popular choice is to order the picada with sausage. There were three of us, so we ordered a picada for that number of people and soft drinks, for a total of 81,800.
Nuestra última parada fue en Villa de Leyva, un pueblo mágico atrapado en el tiempo, sus casas coloniales y calles empedradas te transportan a otra época.
En este lugar puedes comprar artesanía, visitar el "Museo del Chocolate", aprender de su elaboración y enloquecer comprando toda la variedad de productos hechos con el mismo. La entrada al museo tiene un costo de 20.000 pesos, los cuales son redimibles con productos de la tienda.
Our last stop was in Villa de Leyva, a magical town frozen in time, where colonial houses and cobblestone streets transport you to another era.
Here you can buy handicrafts, visit the Chocolate Museum, learn about how chocolate is made, and go crazy buying all kinds of chocolate products. Admission to the museum costs 20,000 pesos, which can be redeemed for products in the store.
En esta ocasión, se estaba celebrando la "Feria del Árbol" en la plaza central de este lugar, por lo cual había muchos toldos con gran variedad de plantas a la venta.
On this occasion, the “Tree Fair” was being held in the central square of this place, so there were many tents with a wide variety of plants for sale.
En Villa de Leyva, puedes conseguir restaurantes gourmet, pizzerías y su especialidad, los postres. No puedes ir a Villa de Leyva y no comerte una de sus deliciosas milhojas, los precios van desde los 7 mil hasta los 15 mil pesos dependiendo del postre. Nosotras decidimos pedir una torta de chocolate, un tiramisú y una milhoja de arequipe y compartir sabores. Los tres postres estaban súper frescos y deliciosos.
In Villa de Leyva, you can find gourmet restaurants, pizzerias, and their specialty: desserts. You can't go to Villa de Leyva and not try one of their delicious mille-feuilles, with prices ranging from 7,000 to 15,000 pesos depending on the dessert. We decided to order a chocolate cake, a tiramisu, and a caramel mille-feuille and share the flavors. All three desserts were super fresh and delicious.
De Villa de Leyva nos fuimos aproximadamente a las 6:00 pm, hicimos una parada en el mismo lugar donde desayunamos para el refrigerio nocturno, el cual fue almojábanas, agua panela caliente y cuajada (este refrigerio también está incluido en el costo de la excursión). Desde ahí hasta Bogotá son dos horas de camino aproximadamente, llegamos muy cansadas, pero muy felices y satisfechas de tan bonita experiencia por el municipio de Boyacá. Definitivamente un buen plan a costo accesible, toda esta aventura me costó 144.000 pesos, sin incluir gastos de souvenirs o recuerdos.
We left Villa de Leyva at around 6:00 pm and stopped at the same place where we had breakfast for an evening snack, which consisted of almojábanas, hot panela water, and curd (this snack is also included in the cost of the excursion). From there to Bogotá, it's about a two-hour drive. We arrived very tired but very happy and satisfied with such a beautiful experience in the municipality of Boyacá. Definitely a good plan at an affordable price. The whole adventure cost me 144,000 pesos, not including souvenirs or gifts.
