Went To A Festival I Hate

Yes, you are correct. I went to a festival I hate 😂 and you're right to ask yourself, why the hell I went if I hate it? I'll explain so stay tuned.

Each year, there's a Lavender Festival in most of the major cities. These Lavender festivals are an event for everyone, in theory, and I hate it every time. Basically it's not the festival I hate, it's the lavender and the color. The plant has various health benefits, which is why you can find a lot of cosmetics, as well as pillows with calming effect, edible products and so on. However, the smell is something I can't stand. It's one of the most hated smell in my book and make sure to avoid it at any cost.

Every time I see a lavender stall, I make sure to get as far away from it as possible and only take photos from far. Every or most of the products are purple, and I hate the color. Not as much as pink as purple is only second on my hated colors list, but that doesn't mean I would choose it, if there's another choice.

So why did I go to the festival today, if I hate it so much? It was an exerciser for me, to see if I can get past my dislike (and hate) and watch the event as any other and also see if I can find a way to not upset my stomach with the scent. This basically was an exercise of self control, that is needed so much in life, in all areas. Life is difficult, we don't always get what we want, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it or make it acceptable. So instead of letting it upset me, today I tried to deal with it and not let my emotions rule my mood and feelings. Not that it matters to anyone else, but I passed the test with flying colors, was able to distance my feelings and control my stomach's reaction to the smell.

This was not the only win. Temptation at these events are usually high, you leave home telling yourself you won't buy anything as budget is tight, then usually you can't resist and spend money on items you shouldn't. Well, imagine the relief as I knew I'm not going to buy anything, unless some snacks or sweets, that has little, or nothing to do with lavender. Feels good to know your budget is safe, isn't it?

So, enough of my story, let's see what I brought for you today.

Right at the beginning, next to the entrance, there was a big flower frame, pretty kitschy as well, for those eager of taking photos to record the event. There was no one at the time I was there, so I took a photo quickly.

One kitschy photo frame is not the end of the world, but when I saw this welcoming entrance gate, disappointment took over. I mean come on people, don't tell me you can't make one using dried lavender, but apparently I am asking too much. Plastic or silk flowers? Come on, it's 2026.

This was the so called "Colored Sand Workshop". There were several cartoon characters, the one you see on the board, you picked one, got a paper with the character and some sticky glue, then sprinkled colored sand on the paper, to get your character in sand and this is how daddy dearest got ripped off 7 euros.

I was deeply annoyed to see Snoopy was not on the board, but on a second thought, it wasn't a bad thing as otherwise I would be ripped off of 7 euros 😆 Ok, Mikey and Minnie looked good, Hello Kitty as well but none of them could ever replace Snoopy.

This was the first booth that made me stop. Those book signs were really cool, but what I have in my collection is enough and honestly, any piece of paper will do. The notebooks on the other hand .... 😍 ... but as today was about self control, I reminded myself politely, that I'm banned from buying any kind of notebook. @mipiano please note the discipline I had today 😆 so i walked away with the image in my head and nothing more.

Look who I met! She was really cute, even though purple is a really odd color, but it serves the purpose here.

There were these two umbrellas hanging on the tree, looked really cool. I don't know what purpose they were serving, but I got an idea to create something. Just have to buy 5 - 6 colorful umbrellas first.

There was no red carpet treatment, but they had a purple carpet. I respectfully avoided walking on it as haters like me deserve nothing 😂

These lavender bouquets looked really nice for 5 euros, but ... were not for me.

Lavender pillows and canvas toys, that can help you sleep, specially good for kids.

These products looked really good, loved the look of the soaps and the other cosmetics. If you want some cool gifts, this is definitely the place.

Creativity has no limits and these candles prove it.

And this was the ultimate test for me. This is the famous Hungarian kürtöskalács, or horn cake, that can't be missing from any fair in Transylvania.

Kürtőskalács (Hungarian: [ˈkyrtøːʃkɒlaːt͡ʃ]; sometimes improperly rendered as kurtosh kolach; Romanian: colac/cozonac secuiesc; German: Baumstriezel; English: chimney cake) is a spit cake specific to Hungarians from Transylvania, more specifically the Székelys. Originally popular in the Székely Land, it became popular in both Hungary and Romania. The first written record dates back to 1679 and was found in the village of Úzdiszentpéter (now Sânpetru de Câmpie), while the first recipe appears in a manuscript cookbook dated in 1781. Earlier a festive treat, now it is part of everyday consumption. A similar pastry to kürtőskalács is Baumstriezel, originating in the Transylvanian Saxon communities.

There is no fair or festival without it and knew there will be some here too. As i didn't buy anything, I said if the price is acceptable, then I'll buy one. Prices at these fairs are crazy, unfortunately, one hamburger was 10 euros here (madness), so I was expecting 7 euros for the kürtöskalács, but it was only 5. Looks like they knew they are not going to sell any at 7, so they made the price more accessible, so I bought one.

Wgat you need to know about it is that back in the day, they only had the simple versions, with caramel sugar and the other was with walnuts. Today they have a great variety, like with cocos, poppy seeds, cocoa and today i saw one with lavender. Yeah, usually I would never consider it, but today I said let's see how brave I am and bought one with lavender. It's true, I asked the guy if it's strong lavender scent or taste, he said mild, so I bought one. Turns out the sugar in which it was rolled in was lavender sugar. I am proudly let you know, that was able to eat it, without any problems.
