Spring

avatar

Usually I'm excited about spring, every year I'm looking forward to seeing the first signs of spring. I'm happy when the cold starts to go away and it's time to take out my spring clothes and shoes. It's been like this since I was a kid and can still remember the joy we felt (yes, I'm not alone with this), when we were allowed to take out our training shoes and get our spring coat. It was a blessing to wear something lighter that those winter boots and winter coat, that was needed as we had snow for months and temperatures sometimes reached -25C. After such a cold, the difference between winter and spring was quite significant.

What we're experiencing lately, can't be compared to those times. Winter is too mild, I don't need my winter coat anymore. We hardly ever have snow, so gloves are useless as well. Kids don't even know what a healthy snowball fight looks or feels like and they can only enjoy skiing or sledging, if their parents can afford to spend some time at the mountains. I used to spend my winter vacation out sledging and building snowmen every single day, till my gloves, pants and coat was frozen ans had a thick coat of ice on them. Those days are long gone and kids these days can only walk in the mud, or on the asphalt.

After such periods, I was always happy to see the weather warm up and buds to appear. This is not a secret, I've stated this several times before, but the truth is, I love buds more than I love flowers. In some cases, buds can have a nicer texture and color than the flower that opens from the bud.

What you see on the photo is a Japanese quince. I took these photos after a good rain and was lucky to capture the raindrops as well.

The flower is red when it opens, but as you can see, the petals of the bud are greenish at this stage and you can see the veins as well.

The truth is, I've never been able to take any decent photos of the flower when it was open, due to the bright red color, those photos are always awful, but the buds look amazing on the photos.

These photos were taken almost two weeks ago and even though nights are sill cold, it's close to freezing point, it gets warmer during the day, which means these buds most likely are open now.

These wild cherry flowers are always symbolizing spring. I think it's safe to say there's no spring without them, or violets. I'm always trying to take a few photos of these beauties and the only year I missed the blossoming was during the covid lockdown.

20240315_115748a.jpg

Ok, there was another year, when I was ready to go out to take some photos and there was a huge storm overnight and these delicate flowers did not survive. All the petals were on the ground in the morning and I was left empty handed. Since then, I know to not waste time and take the photos when I have the first occasion as there may not be another one.

The truth is, this year I could not enjoy these flowers and buds. They are just as beautiful as ever, so most likely I'm changing.

20240315_120015a.jpg

I've been working and studying like crazy and most likely I'm starting to burn out, or lose interest in nature's beauty, which is a shame and can never allow that to happen.

These are pink and although I hate pink, I find these more beautiful than the white ones. The leaves at this stage are brown, but will turn green (I think) after the flowers wither away.

20240321_114519a.jpg

Look at these beauties. How can you not love them?

20240321_114522a.jpg

Another funny thing is (I mentioned this before, in my butterfly post), that quite often, when I see similar beauties, I think of how cool it would look as pattern on a blouse, dress or shirt. I hate pink, but I think I'd like a shirt with this pattern.

There's one more thing that I'd like to photograph this spring and that's the wild apple blossom. Those are a bit darker pink flowers and open a bit later.

This is the flower parade for today and most likely the last for awhile. I hope you like the photos :)

It is true that changes in the weather and in our experiences can influence the way we perceive the beauty that surrounds us, but your photos capture that beauty so authentically. Very good photographs. I liked the last flowers very much.

Stunning photos! The details of the quince buds and cherry blossoms are mesmerizing. I can almost feel the delicate textures and see the raindrops you captured so well. It's a shame winters are milder now, but your love for spring is contagious. Thank you for the beauty and reminder of nature's simple joys!

The arrival of summer brings with it a wave of flowers like water to the thirsty. I find the flowers along with the buds very beautiful.

Haha…looking at these berry flowers, it really comes to mind that their patterns can be engraved on clothes, or this print can be printed on bedsheets.

a beautiful post

Spring is the period the natural world revives, plants begin to grow. This is the period many children expect to see.

I totally hear you on the climate change. Same experience here. I think we are of a similar age and I too remember very different winters than what we have now. And not just winters actually, all four seasons of the year used to be very distinct with their typical features. Now, it often seems like they blend into each other or get randomly skipped... It was so warm in February already that I was riding my bike in just a T shirt and still was sweating like crazy. Then, a few days later, it was freezing again. The climate is all messed up and it´s only (or mostly) our fault :(

Anyway, you took some really nice shots here. The water droplets on the quince buds look so cool :)

Happy spring from Czechia to Romania!

You're right on! We used to have 4 seasons, now we have 3 at best. I see some of my clothes never get to wear them, due to the sudden warmup. Summers are too hot now, my dad's garden has a lot to suffer each year.

That unfortunately happens every single year. I remember we started the gardening season on the 15th or March, then we were shoveling snow 2 weeks later. Imagine those bus, getting freezing cold all of the sudden. The flat earth theorist come and tell me this is all invented by politicians :D

Thank you for the nice comment and I'm glad you liked my shots. I did my best.
Happy Easter my friend and enjoy the weekend!

Those days are long gone and kids these days can only walk in the mud, or on the asphalt.

Heeey, I felt this. I've never experienced snow here in my area (because there is no snow in the tropics. Only hellish heat in summer and wavy pools every La Nina.) But heeeey, this is sad. Whether it's the weather or children uninterested in snow fights (because technology), this just feels sad...

I want to experience snow too...

I can assure you, that any kid would be interested in a show fight, or in playing in the snow in general, but they don't really know what it is. I hope you can experience snow one day, it's a lot of fun.

Nice to see some flowers starting up in your part of the world. We are still watching the snow melt from the last storm.

I love buds more than I love flowers

Sometimes beauty is subtle 🙂

Oh, I'm sorry you still have snow. At some point it can become annoying, especially after so long. I hope you can get some sunshine and buds as well, soon.

The water droplets got me. So beautiful. I love spring so much because that is the only time you see life in plants. They blossom like it it's their last

Friendly advice, don't drop unsolicited links in comments, if you want to have a future on Hive. This is called spamming and can backfire easily. So delete it now and don't so this again.

What beautiful pictures you share with us friends, to see these flowers blooming is one of the most beautiful parts of spring.

I have never noticed the buds before, normally when I go to take a photo it is of the flower itself.

But I must admit that the photos of the Japanese quince flowers are very beautiful, as well as the wild cherry flowers and the roses that you share with us, I was very happy looking at each photo and reading about the process.

Thank you for sharing, greetings and hugs.

Yes, the full process is like a miracle, from buds to flowers. It's a slow process, but definitely worth witnessing it from the beginning to the end.

I'm sure it's worth it, I don't know if you have a garden at home, I don't, but it would be very nice to have my own garden at home and be able to watch the whole process of a flower blooming and capture each step, day after day.

Thanks for replying to my comment, best regards.

There's no better moment in the year than seeing natural blooming and waking up. My single fear right now is not to face another radical change in weather conditions as that will ruin everything..

My fear too and trust me, I have more to lose as my dad has a garden. We never know what is going to happen, so fingers crossed. Let's hope we don't have to shovel snow in April.
