In The World Of Landscapes

Now that one of the gallery is closed for summer vacation, I took a break from art too. It's summer, we have a lot of festivals and events, so it's not like I'm bored in this regard. There are still a few exhibition to go to, but somehow with this heat, my mood is not the same.

Today I remembered that there's an exhibition room set up in the meeting room of a church, that I used to visit and opened my folders to see when was the last time I visited the place. Shockingly, it was December last year. I don't have an answer as to why I did not visit the place this year, but I still have some photos from last year, which worth posting for several reasons.

The reason I like that gallery is because you get to find some gems you don't find elsewhere. The artists exhibiting there are not professionals, not well known and most likely don't really have other opportunities. Some do, but not everyone. This is how the church is helping them and it's a very nice gesture on their behalf.

This was a solo exhibition of Lajos Emil Kovács, a very talented artist, with so many great artworks.

These paintings may appear as rough at first site, but if you look at them from close, you see their value. I particularly liked the old lady, with the golden background. The oblong, vertical canvas is a plus here. I like unconventional sized canvases and this is one of them.

It was the second of December and these orange slices were placed on the heater to dry. It's an old custom (some have it), to hang dried orange slices on the Christmas tree. This was not part of the exhibition, but was nice to see the old custom respected and know that the church's Christmas tree is going to be colored by orange slices.

Most likely you see some similarities between the two paintings and that is the way the trees are painted. The artist has this style, these two paintings are not the only two with such trees and I love it. I would choose the second one, although I love the first one too, but we can't have it all, can we?

If I were to use one word to describe the style of the artist, that would be rough, but not in a bad sense. You can see the brushstrokes and the lines are not fine lines, but this is an advantage and a very good thing. Different doesn't always mean bad.

Looking at these paintings, made me think of my childhood, when I visited my grandparents, as most of them were village landscapes and houses, or portraits of village people. It's a recurring theme in art.

And this was the painting where I regretted deeply, that I could not have every painting I like. It's never been a secret that I live blue and green color combinations and the golden cracked effect frame makes it perfect for me. For some reason, these landscapes mean calm to me and in these rushed times, I think it's better to have such a painting on your wall. Some painters have the talent to transfer calmness to the viewers, through the painting. It's a talent for sure.

There were so many really nice paintings you could hardly choose. The bottom one with the houses was also calling my name.

After the summer is over, or at the beginning of September I'm going to check if there are new exhibitions at the church. These gems deserve exposure, so I'll keep an eye out, to be able to bring you fresh content.
