Damage to the Hesperia Maracay Hotel After the Earthquake (Esp/Eng)

Cerca de la famosa Redoma del Toro en Maracay - Las Delicias se encuentra el famoso Hotel Hesperia Maracay, un edificio de 11 pisos y 99 habitaciones que normalmente son usadas por grandes ejecutivos o personas que viajan, si existe interés por visitar alguna de las playas de las costas aragüeñas tendría que viajar aproximadamente una hora y cincuenta minutos en carretera de montaña: Choroní, Cata, Ocumare, carretera bastante angosta y peligrosa que no me gusta transitar, aunque las playas valen la pena.
La edificación está en un lugar estratégico y considerada en una de las mejores zonas de Aragua con su clima de montaña y estatus de clase media - alta. Frente a la edificación podemos encontrar el antiguo Hotel de Golf Maracay con tierras de "El Golfito"
Al ser "hesperia" pertenece a la cadena internacional de Hotels & Resorts y Empresas Sindoni ¡Genial! ¿Cierto?
Aclaro que jamás he estado dentro de este hotel, así que no sé cómo es y está por dentro.
Ya que hablé un poco de uno de los iconos de mi pueblo, ahora cuento acerca de su estado el día que di mi caminata.

Near the famous Redoma del Toro in Maracay—Las Delicias—stands the renowned Hotel Hesperia Maracay, an 11-story building with 99 rooms typically occupied by high-ranking executives or business travelers. If you’re interested in visiting any of the beaches along the Aragua coast, you’ll need to travel approximately one hour and fifty minutes along a mountain road: Choroní, Cata, Ocumare—a rather narrow and dangerous road that I don’t like to drive on, although the beaches are worth the trip.
The building is in a strategic location and is considered one of the best areas in Aragua, with its mountain climate and upper-middle-class status. Across from the building stands the former Hotel de Golf Maracay, along with the grounds of “El Golfito.”
Since it’s a “Hesperia,” it belongs to the international Hotels & Resorts chain and Empresas Sindoni. Awesome! Right?
I should clarify that I’ve never been inside this hotel, so I don’t know what it’s like on the inside.
Now that I’ve talked a bit about one of my town’s landmarks, I’ll tell you about its condition on the day I took my walk.

Es un edificio muy alto, tomarle fotos desde el ángulo que estoy no puede darle toda la gracia y belleza que merece, es una estructura moderna a pesar de haber sigo construida a finales del año 2000 y remodelada en el 2017 tras el cambio de administración, aunque los dueños siguen siendo la familia Sindoni.
Sindoni... ¿Recuerdan? Cuando siempre hablo de la icónica Torre Sindoni de Maracay... Esto es un dato muy curioso.
Después de los terremotos...
Una de las aplicaciones que uso en mi teléfono Android es Earthquake (al que le hice una review reciente) Allí no solo puedo ver los movimientos sísmicos en mi país sino a nivel mundial y es realmente alarmante la cantidad de actividad que hay en lo que según un documental que vi es el área que comprende el Cinturón de Fuego del Pacífico o Anillo de Fuego del Pacífico, confieso que siento mucho miedo al verlo. Pero a falta de cultura en mi país con respecto a esto, bien hay que investigar y culturizarse. En conclusión: esto es mundial, los movimientos de las placas tectónicas nos afectan a todos.

It’s a very tall building; taking photos of it from my vantage point doesn’t do justice to all the charm and beauty it deserves. It’s a modern structure, even though it was built in late 2000 and remodeled in 2017 following a change in management—though the Sindoni family still owns it.
Sindoni… Remember? When I always talk about the iconic Sindoni Tower in Maracay… Here’s a really interesting fact.
After the earthquakes…
One of the apps I use on my Android phone is Earthquake (which I recently reviewed). There, I can see seismic activity not only in my country but worldwide, and the amount of activity in what—according to a documentary I watched—is the area comprising the Pacific Ring of Fire is truly alarming. I confess that I feel very afraid when I see it. But given the lack of awareness about this in my country, it’s important to do some research and educate ourselves. In conclusion: this is a global issue; the movements of tectonic plates affect us all.

Por la forma de la estructura (redonda) puedo intuir que o se trata de escaleras o se trata de ascensores, pero sí puedo afirmar que desde afuera se nota que es el área que ha sufrido mayor daño luego de los terremotos.
Es un Hotel por lo que no hay personas viviendo alli - por fortuna.
Luego de los movimientos sísmicos en junio de 2026 el Hotel Hesperia Maracay aparentemente no sufrió colapsos ni daños estructurales graves, también tuve la molestia de preguntar al vigilante. Según evaluaciones de ingenieros no hay daño grave en su infraestructura y que están operando normalmente bajo limitaciones, es decir pocas personas... pueden notar tambien algunos carros estacionados en las afueras del estacionamiento privado, estaba lleno de vehículos ese día que fui.
Para mí fue impresionante ver enormes grietas y desprendimiento de friso y trozos de pared... imagino que un hotel de esa categoría pronto será reestructurado.
Cuando veo los daños en las edificaciones, incluso en mi vivienda, siento que no solo se quebró o cayó una edificación, en lo personal así me siento por dentro después de todos estos sucesos que, tristemente aún continuamos viviendo, sin embargo, dentro de toda la tragedia, al ver que es todo nuestro planeta tierra en movimiento, vivo, desplazándose, es una actividad que nos ha afectado a todos, algunos países se han preocupado por construir viviendas y edificios que sean amigables con el ambiente y soporten movimientos sísmicos, es momento que Venezuela también siga lineamientos para evitar futuras catástrofes, es momento que desde la escuela, se introduzcan cátedras para prevención y conocimiento a futuras generaciones.
Creo que el dicho de "Venezuela somos todos" es un lindo llamado empático a concientizar porque la vida, la forma en la que vemos las cosas, nos está cambiando.
Qué nunca se tambalee o derribe nuestra fe.

Based on the shape of the structure (round), I can guess that it’s either a staircase or an elevator, but I can say for sure that from the outside, it’s clear this is the area that sustained the most damage after the earthquakes.
It’s a hotel, so no one lives there—fortunately.
After the earthquakes in June 2026, the Hesperia Maracay Hotel apparently did not suffer any collapses or serious structural damage; I also took the trouble to ask the security guard. According to engineers’ assessments, there is no serious damage to its infrastructure, and it is operating normally under certain limitations—that is, with few people… You can also see some cars parked outside the private parking lot; it was full of vehicles the day I went there.
For me, it was striking to see huge cracks and pieces of stucco and wall fragments falling off… I imagine a hotel of that caliber will soon be renovated.
When I see the damage to buildings—even to my own home—I feel that it’s not just a building that cracked or collapsed; personally, that’s how I feel inside after all these events that, sadly, we’re still living through. However, amidst all the tragedy, seeing that our entire planet Earth is in motion—alive, shifting—is a phenomenon that has affected us all. Some countries have made efforts to build homes and buildings that are environmentally friendly and can withstand seismic activity. It’s time for Venezuela to also follow these guidelines to prevent future catastrophes; it’s time for schools to introduce courses on prevention and awareness for future generations.
I believe that the saying “We are all Venezuela” is a beautiful, empathetic call to raise awareness because life—the way we see things—is changing us.
