many years ago a part of the harbor in town was a few hundred meters farther inland. it has long been filled in and the area now is a public park called Buktaparken with a children's playground and this rocky pool with a statue in it. in the winter this shallow section was one of the first parts of the harbor that froze because the water was often still. there was a deeper canal that led to a shrimp packing house but that was moved into nearby Larvik during world war two. it was a popular place for the children to go ice skating but the shallowest areas were used as a landfill for soil and gravel. so eventually in the 1980's it was decided to fill and cap the area making space for a large housing development appropriately called Bukta, the bay. after the area was filled this park was created next to the housing with a rocky pool in lieu of the water that once was. one of the local artists made this statue of the boy on skates. she's no longer with us but i knew her well.

the rocky pool also happens to be home to a rare salamander. ii was unintentional, nature just made the arrangement. since there are no fish in the pool to eat them, the salamanders thrive in the still water environment not so different from their native habitat.

anyway the statue of the skating boy reflects nicely on the still pool along with the lamppost behind him. there's even a street sign too

now if you are like me, you probably like to play around with situations like this. so by lining up the statue with the lamppost the reflections also align
