entry reflections 229: shipping containers
i was recently walking around the container depot in the nearby city of Larvik. of course most of the area where
work is going on is fenced off and closed to the public for safety and security reasons but a section with presumably empty containers was accessible. there was a large puddle in front of some. i'm not sure if it was from rain we had a few days before or if the containers had been cleaned. regardless of whatever caused the puddle it was still on the side closest to the containers and rippled toward the open area. i guess the containers were blocking the wind on part but not all the puddle. anyway there was an interesting reflection on the puddle with one text vlearly visible and another much more distorted
when i moved closer to the puddle for this shot the clear text in the first photo almost disappeared while the unclear lighter blue one suddenly became clear
here you can see that i purposely avoided including the top container in the first shots in order to raise curiosity about the double reflection.
choosing where you position yourself when taking a reflection photo is part of the fun. when taking shots of reflections on water there are often major differences between shots taken from a very low height and those from normal eye level. shots taken from even higher positions often totally change what is being reflected and may end up being sky and clouds rather than objects on the ground. likewise in vertical surfaces such as mirrors what one sees reflected when standing on one side can be totally different than what is seen when standing on the other side.
