3 años en Hive / 3 three years on Hive 🎂

Hace uso pocos días que se cumplió mi tercer Hive-cumpleaños. Puedo asegurar que me ha llevado varios días (antes y después de la fecha de celebración) pensar en qué podía escribir con motivo de estos tres años. Al volver a mi publicación de hace un año, no me causó mucho asombro que de todos los (buenos) propósitos no haya cumplido ninguno de los expuestos en ella.

Seguramente, todavía escribía alguien al que alcanzar metas le movía algo adentro. Hoy no escribiré de metas, o quizás si. Aunque si que reflexionaré sobre lo que es Hive para mí.

Para ello he escogido el camino de la analogía...

A few days ago marked my third Hive anniversary. I can assure you that it took me several days (both before and after the anniversary) to think about what I could write to mark these three years. Looking back at my post from a year ago, I wasn’t too surprised to find that, of all the (good) resolutions I’d made, I hadn’t fulfilled a single one of them.

Surely, I was still writing as someone for whom achieving goals stirred something inside. Today I won’t write about goals—or maybe I will. But I will reflect on what Hive means to me.

To do so, I’ve chosen to use an analogy...

La historía de esta analogía comienza en mayo de este año (2026). En Alicante Celebrábamos el #HiveOpenDays, mi primer gran encuentro con otros hivers, acontecimiento del que ya escribí en otra publicación.

La mañana del 3 mayo había quedado con @mipiano y con @ph1102, si no recuerdo mal a las 8.30 de la mañana, para ir de paseo. Llegaron puntuales y de allí salimos hacia Calpe. En el coche además me esperaban un par de deliciosos sandwiches y bebida.

Mipiano se quedó trabajando mientras que Ph1102 se convertía, desde ese momento, en mi guía. No soy muy hablador y las situaciones sociales me suelen incomodar. Este no fue el caso. Además de andar bastante hubo tiempo para conversar… porque conversamos de muchas cosas.

El paseo comenzó sobre las 9.30 am, una hora ideal por la tranquilidad y el silencio que nos estaba acompañando.

Pronto nos encontrábamos sobre un mirador, desde el cual se podía disfrutar de la belleza del paisaje, a pesar de la amenaza de lluvia. Antes de iniciar nuestro ascenso, Ph1102 ya me había compartido una metáfora propia de una persona poco común.

The story behind this analogy begins in May of this year (2026). In Alicante, we were celebrating #HiveOpenDays, my first major gathering with other Hivers—an event I’ve already written about in another post.

On the morning of May 3, I had arranged to meet up with @mipiano and @ph1102—if I recall correctly, at 8:30 a.m.—to go for a walk. They arrived right on time, and from there we set off for Calpe. In the car, a couple of delicious sandwiches and a drink were waiting for me.

Mipiano stayed behind to work, while Ph1102 became my guide from that moment on. I’m not very talkative, and social situations usually make me uncomfortable. This wasn’t the case, though. In addition to walking quite a bit, there was time to talk… because we talked about so many things.

The walk began around 9:30 a.m., an ideal time given the peace and quiet that surrounded us.

Soon we found ourselves at a lookout point from which we could enjoy the beauty of the landscape despite the threat of rain. Before we began our ascent, Ph1102 had already shared a metaphor with me—one typical of an unusual person.

Me señaló un árbol de apariencia bastante común, un árbol de aspecto recio, no muy grande aunque entre sus ramas se veían las vainas de color verde que contenían un fruto muy humilde, la algarroba. Un árbol resistente, capaz de dar cosecha donde otras plantas no son capaces, y si entendí bien, un árbol que ha sido la base de la economía tradicional durante siglos. Una mirada a un árbol que es también una filosofía de vida (yo lo entendí así).

Seguimos subiendo hasta tener unas grandes vistas del mar con un gigante que guarda la costa, el enorme Peñón de Ifach. Después bajamos a la playa.

La temperatura era ideal para pasear. Aunque ya se veía algún vecino o vecina paseando, el ambiente seguía siendo tranquilo. En el camino Ph1102 me señaló unas rocas en el mar, se trataba de una piscifactoría de los tiempos de Roma. Después nos encaminamos a ver la laguna de los flamencos (pájaros). Tengo que comentar que tomar la fotografía de un flamenco con la cabeza afuera del agua es toda un proeza.

Casi era inevitable hablar de como las nuevas construcciones se van comiendo los espacios naturales y van cambiando la fisionomía del lugar. Parece que este animal que es el ser humano, tiene ansia de paradojas. Un lugar que crece porque ofrece sol, naturaleza y mar, al mismo tiempo que crece va socavando lo que le hace tan atractivo para vivir allí.

Entre bromas estuvimos buscando un piso para mí, lo que nos llevó a reflexionar sobre cuando es el momento de comprar o vender un piso. La teoría parece clara, vender caro – comprar barato, la cuestión es cómo saber cuando es caro y cuando es barato.

He pointed out a rather ordinary-looking tree to me—a sturdy-looking tree, not very large, though among its branches you could see the green pods containing a very humble fruit, the carob. A resilient tree, capable of bearing fruit where other plants cannot, and if I understood correctly, a tree that has been the foundation of the traditional economy for centuries. A glimpse at a tree that is also a philosophy of life (that’s how I understood it).

We continued climbing until we had sweeping views of the sea, with a giant guarding the coast: the enormous Peñón de Ifach. Then we headed down to the beach.

The temperature was perfect for a stroll. Although we could already see a few locals out for a walk, the atmosphere remained peaceful. Along the way, Ph1102 pointed out some rocks in the sea to me; they were the remains of a fish farm from Roman times. Then we headed off to see the flamingo lagoon. I have to say that taking a photo of a flamingo with its head out of the water is quite a feat.

It was almost inevitable to talk about how new construction is gradually encroaching on natural spaces and changing the character of the place. It seems that we humans have a thirst for paradoxes.
It is a place that is growing because it offers sun, nature, and the sea; yet, as it grows, it undermines the very qualities that make it so attractive as a place to live.

Amid the jokes, we were looking for an apartment for me, which led us to think about when is the right time to buy or sell an apartment. The theory seems clear—sell high, buy low—but the question is how to know when it’s expensive and when it’s cheap.

No recuerdo la hora a la que fuimos a buscar a Mipiano, lo que si recuerdo es que me comí el chocolate de ella.

Salimos de Calpe en coche en dirección a Altea, creo. Al llegar, nos volvimos a dividir, Mipiano continuó con sus obligaciones y Ph1102 me llevó al Parc Natural de la Serra Gelada.

Un espacio que todavía conserva la vegetación típica de la región. Los protagonistas sin duda eran la montaña y el mar. De nuevo Ph1102 me fue instruyendo sobre aquel espacio natural. Me mostró una rocas en donde se podían apreciar los restos fósiles de una ¿ballena?, los restos de unas minas de cobre, los pinos quemados por la sequía… y también espacio para la mitología.

I don’t remember what time we went to pick up Mipiano, but what I do remember is that I ate her chocolate bar.

We left Calpe by car and headed toward Altea, I think. When we arrived, we split up again; Mipiano went back to her duties, and Ph1102 took me to the Serra Gelada Natural Park.

It’s an area that still preserves the region’s typical vegetation. The main attractions were undoubtedly the mountain and the sea. Once again, Ph1102 gave me a tour of that natural area. He showed me some rocks where you could see the fossilized remains of a—was it a whale?—the ruins of some copper mines, pine trees scorched by the drought… and there was also room for mythology.

Estuve buscando por internet una historia que se asemejara a la historia que me contó Ph. Espero no haberme equivocado.

Según la leyenda, hace muchos, muchos años vivía en el monte Puig Campana el gigante Roldán. Un día, conoció a una joven y la pareja de enamorados vivió feliz en la montaña, hasta que apareció una bruja malvada.

Fue entonces cuando la bruja maldijo a la joven. Ésta moriría cuando el último rayo del sol dejara de alumbrar. Ese día, cuando el sol se escondía tras el horizonte, el gigante dio una enorme patada al monte arrancando un gran trozo del monte. Gracias a ese hueco en el monte continuó pasando la luz durante unos minutos mas. Unos minutos ganados a la muerte, en los que los dos amantes seguirían juntos. Creo que en una de las fotografías aparece en el mar la roca que da sustento a la leyenda.

Al terminar esta excursión volvimos al coche y recogimos a Mipiano. Es la última vez que he visto en persona a estas dos grandes personas, aunque deseo que pronto podamos volver a reunirnos.

Llagado a este punto, mi meta para este año es volver a compartir momentos, algo que hago a diario en Hive.
