A green corner in the heart of Maturín: La Guaricha Zoo Park🍃🌳

After almost a year without visiting La Guaricha Zoo, I decided to return to this place that had long been my favorite spot for running on weekends. Although my workouts now require longer distances and I usually go out in the evening between 6 and 7 p.m., when the air begins to have that coolness that caresses the skin, returning to La Guaricha was like rediscovering a part of myself that had been left suspended among the trees.

This park, located in the heart of Maturín, is a natural refuge that many value for its peaceful atmosphere and lush vegetation. As soon as you walk through its gates, the air changes: it becomes purer, gentler. The tall trees offer cool shade, and the green grass invites you to walk barefoot, to reconnect with the earth, to feel that there are still places where nature embraces us without haste.

One of the things that surprised me most was the good condition of the zoo. La Guaricha is home to a variety of animals, especially birds that have been rescued and receive proper care here. Although I personally prefer to see animals in the wild, I must admit that this park shows genuine respect for their welfare. The spaces are clean, the animals look healthy, and there is a comforting sense of harmony.

Among the spots I enjoyed most was the stream that winds through much of the park. It is full of fish of all sizes, and watching them swim alongside the ducks was a deeply relaxing experience. There is something magical about seeing life flow in that small ecosystem, where the water reflects the sky and the fish seem to dance to the rhythm of the breeze.

For families, La Guaricha also offers multiple attractions designed for children: slides, swings, seesaws, spinning wheels... all located in safe, colorful areas that invite play and joy. It is common to see children running among the trees, laughing on the swings, or looking in awe at animals they may have only seen in books.

In addition to its recreational value, the park has historical and cultural significance for the city. It was inaugurated in 1979 and has since been a meeting place for generations of Maturin residents. Its name, "La Guaricha," comes from an indigenous word meaning "girl" or "boy," reinforcing its role as a family-friendly and educational space.

Although its opening hours from 8 a.m. onwards don't quite fit in with my training routine, walking along its paths again reminded me how valuable it is to have a place like this within the city. A place where you can breathe, observe, and feel. Where nature and care intertwine to offer a respite from the urban pace.

I'm sure I'll be back soon. Maybe not to run, but to continue connecting with that gentler side of life, the one found in birdsong, the murmur of water, and the generous shade of trees.

Después de casi un año sin visitar el Parque Zoológico La Guaricha, decidí volver a este espacio que durante mucho tiempo fue mi lugar favorito para correr los fines de semana. Aunque ahora mis entrenamientos requieren más distancia y suelo salir en la tarde entre seis y siete de la noche, cuando el aire comienza a tener ese frescor que acaricia la piel, regresar a La Guaricha fue como reencontrarme con una parte de mí que había quedado suspendida entre los árboles.

Este parque, ubicado en pleno corazón de Maturín, es un refugio natural que muchos valoran por su atmósfera tranquila y su vegetación generosa. Desde que cruzas sus portones, el aire cambia: se vuelve más puro, más amable. Los árboles altos ofrecen sombra fresca, y el césped verde invita a caminar descalza, a reconectar con la tierra, a sentir que aún hay espacios donde la naturaleza nos abraza sin prisa.

Uno de los aspectos que más me sorprendió fue el buen estado en el que se encuentra el zoológico. La Guaricha alberga una variedad de animales, especialmente aves que han sido rescatadas y reciben aquí el cuidado adecuado. Aunque personalmente prefiero ver a los animales en libertad, debo admitir que en este parque se percibe un respeto genuino por su bienestar. Los espacios están limpios, los animales se ven saludables y hay una sensación de armonía que reconforta.

Entre los rincones que más disfruté está la corriente de agua que serpentea por gran parte del parque. Está llena de peces de todos los tamaños, y observarlos nadar junto a los patos fue una experiencia profundamente relajante. Hay algo mágico en ver cómo la vida fluye en ese pequeño ecosistema, donde el agua refleja el cielo y los peces parecen bailar al ritmo de la brisa.

Para las familias, La Guaricha también ofrece múltiples atracciones pensadas para los más pequeños: toboganes, columpios, sube y baja, ruedas giratorias... todo dispuesto en áreas seguras y coloridas que invitan al juego y a la alegría. Es común ver a los niños correr entre los árboles, reír en los columpios o mirar con asombro a los animales que quizás solo habían visto en libros.

Además de su valor recreativo, el parque tiene una importancia histórica y cultural para la ciudad. Fue inaugurado en 1979 y desde entonces ha sido un punto de encuentro para generaciones de maturineses. Su nombre, “La Guaricha” proviene de una palabra indígena que significa “niña” o “niño”, lo que refuerza su vocación como espacio familiar y educativo.

Aunque su horario de apertura a partir de las 8 de la mañana, no se ajusta del todo a mis rutinas de entrenamiento, volver a caminar por sus senderos me recordó lo valioso que es tener un lugar así dentro de la ciudad. Un sitio donde puedes respirar, observar, sentir. Donde la naturaleza y el cuidado se entrelazan para ofrecer un respiro al ritmo urbano.

Estoy segura de que pronto volveré. Tal vez no para correr, pero sí para seguir conectando con ese lado más suave de la vida, el que se encuentra entre el canto de las aves, el murmullo del agua y la sombra generosa de los árboles.
