Shootin' Shit Weekend
Here are some more highlights from my weekend away in the countryside. I was really happy to also get some nice shots of the night sky. Man oh man, stars for days nights! I couldn't get my DSLR to co-operate because I had idiotically left my tripod at home, but I managed to get a 30second exposure with my phone. It's not perfect, but it gives you an idea of how many stars we don't see when we're out in the city light.

I was just in LOVE with the sky! The moon was practically full while we were there so we had to try and get photos of the stars before her light drowned them out. My DSLR wasn't co-operating with the moon pics either and they were horribly over-exposed but with a little bit of editing I was able to make things happen and voila!

And let's not forget her presence during the day either. Yes, I know I'm weird having given the moon a pronoun, but hey fuck, seems like everyone these days is doing it hahaha.

There were some other cool things that I came across while there that might make some people squee or squeal, depending on your affinity for arthropods. They must be nocturnal because I didn't see any of them around during the day other than the carcasses which were being munched on by ants. I've always liked millipedes but these ones were ginormous.Yes, that IS a word! I reckon it spanned my whole freaking hand.

Then there was a docile little butterfly that I found sunbasking in the morning that was kind enough to sit still for this photo.

The family I was with also brought along their new Australian shepherd pup who is only 3 months old. A really well behaved little dog who was off leash the entire weekend, didn't wander far off and came when called. Bonding with this baby was definitely one of the best moments.

We sat around at night talking shit about all manner of important world events, politics, the next generation, the perils we are facing and then settled in to be mesmerized by the flames.

I still haven't worked out how to use my phone camera very well, it's so different to what I'm used to on my digital, but I think that these sorts of forays provide perfect opportunities to mess around and experiment....

And obviously I asked my bud to take a pic of me playing with the compound bow. This was one of the best camping weekends I've ever had. I was kinda sad when we had to pack up, but having roughed it for 3 days straight, I was looking forward to a hot shower!
