Wednesday Walk: The Village Was Full of Good Things

It’s time for another post for the #wednesdaywalk initiative hosted by @tattoodjay. As I walked around my village, I couldn't help but notice just how much activity is going on when you take the time to look at people's gardens. From ripening fruit and vegetables to busy pollinators, there is so much life to see!

Heading past the park area, I spotted some crisp red crab apples hanging from a branch beside the cricket pitch. They’re there for everyone to pick and enjoy. Someone even made some jam from them last year.

​Further down the road, a giant, bright orange pumpkin was hiding under its leaves. I've never seen anyone growing these in their front garden before. Usually back gardens are where people grow vegetables.

​I also came across some juicy, dark blackberries hanging over a wall, with bright orange rose hips blending right in along a matching orange fence.

​The village gardens were also buzzing with tiny creatures. I watched a fluffy bumblebee hard at work collecting nectar among some purple lavender that smelled lovely.

​Just a few steps later, a Painted Lady butterfly rested on the buddleia bush. I nearly missed it as its colour was quite muted.

We've had a couple of spells of rain recently, so I'm hoping the gardens got a good soaking after such a hot, dry period. I made it home just before the rain started again. We definitely needed it!
