Sun, Sand, and Seaside Views at Scarborough, UK

Following on from our visit to North Yorkshire, UK, we also visited the coastal town of Scarborough, which is the largest town on the Yorkshire Coast in the UK. The weather was fine apart from raining during the night, so we had bright sunshine for our day out.

We started with a walk above the beach. The Grand Hotel looked huge against the blue sky, with bright blue railings along the walkway.

We also walked down the road under the large imposing iron Cliff Bridge, which connects the town centre to the South Cliff.

Further down on the seafront, we passed the Scarborough Spa and its outdoor Sun Court bandstand. From here, you get a great view out over South Bay Beach, as well as the unique circular roundabout near the site of Scarborough’s original 17th century mineral springs.

Down on the sand, the lifeguards were on duty in their white hut, with red and yellow flags marking out the safe swimming area. A few people were swimming in the sea, and across the bay you could see the old castle ruins sitting high up on the hill. The castle dates back to the 1150s, although the great tower was badly damaged by cannon fire during the Civil War siege in 1645, leaving the ruins we can see today.

Someone had left a little painted rock that said, "After every storm comes a rainbow!" which fit the weather nicely after the rain. I will take it home and rehide it.

There was also a fun Paw Patrol ride for kids and a big wheel nearby, which added to the seaside atmosphere.

It was a lovely day by the sea. We really enjoyed walking around, taking photos, and seeing the beach, making it a great place to stop on our trip. There is so much to see here, from the old historical spots to the nice seaside views. We took a final stroll along the promenade before heading off home.
