Highland Cattle and Eagle Stone
From the Curbar Gap car park in Derbyshire, we crossed over the road and headed through the gate to Baslow Edge to visit the Highland Cattle that are grazing there. We've walked here many times as it's fairly flat once on top with great views. Last time I came here it was autumn time and it was quite misty. This week we are having our summer at last.
It wasn't long before we found the cattle. They've been staying in the same spot for a while. There are 200 acres of land to roam, so sometimes you don't see them at all. As it is going to be a warm week, they tend to find shade under the tree near the entrance to the moors.
The cattle are so popular they even have their own Facebook group.
The lovely purple heather and the cattle are a great combination.
They are used to hikers walking past them. Obviously, with all cattle, you have to keep your distance if they have young calves. I don't get too close to them. I respect their space.
After spending time with the cattle, we carried on to Eagle Stone made from gritstone. There is an old local custom that before young men are allowed to marry, they have to prove their masculinity and fitness by climbing to the top of the stone.
Thank goodness things have changed. You do still see the odd person climbing it whatever gender they are.
It was a shortish, flat walk but quite an interesting one and just the right distance with it being hot.

I have been looking for the wild purple flower field for a long time. Here in Holland, there is one spot near me but I couldn't go there due to some issues. I wanted to go there for photography purposes, this kind of land looks pretty incredible...
The stone is interesting to look at how it formed...
The heather does look lovely when it's all out. It won't be long before the flowers die off and then it will look boring.
That is so beautiful Highland. This palace looks so wild.
Thank you. Yes, in the winter it can get cold up there.
Wow, pretty cool pictures. Thank you for sharing with us a little bit of your tour ☺️
Thank you. My pleasure.
