Heron Fishing: Tips for Catching Fish in Rainy Conditions!

Popping into my local supermarket, I thought I'd call in at the local dam on the way. The dam has been around since the 18th century. Back then it provided water power for the nearby corn mill.

I usually spot a heron or egret down here. When people see you have a camera, they usually tell you what they've spotted. Fortunately, for me, the heron was here again doing a spot of fishing. It stood watching the fish swim past. It was on high alert. I was quite surprised at how shallow the water was.

The heron was like a statue. It remained perfectly still. Once it spotted a fish, it lunged for the catch. I don't like to see fish getting eaten, so I quickly moved on. It wasn't the ideal weather to be stood around as it was throwing it down with rain and my fingers were getting cold.

Apart from a juvenile black headed gull there wasn't much more bird life around.

There weren't many people out either. Usually, it's full of dog walkers. They've probably got more sense than me and stayed inside to keep dry.

The rain did make the autumn colours really pop, though. I'm hoping we get a bit of snow at Christmas as it looks quite pretty here.

What a beautiful sight! The heron is a very patient hunter, and it's amazing to see them in action. I'm glad you got to see one catch a fish.
