Exploring the Quaint Village of Hartington in Derbyshire, UK

We visited the quaint little village of Hartington in Derbyshire, UK. Back in 1203, Hartington was given permission to have a market with local people selling goods and animals to the villagers. Even though it's many years that a market has been here, you can just imagine the hustle and bustle of trading. Source

In the middle of the village is a large square and duck pond. You can park for free next to the pond but if it's busy there is a paying car park closeby.

The most interesting building is the 17th century manor house, Hartington Hall, that has now been converted into a youth hostel and cafe. Source

There are a variety of cafes, gift shops and pubs in the village. The pub is named after Charles Cotton (1630 –1687) who was an English poet and writer who lived locally. Source

The houses and cottages are made out of limestone. I love the old, weathered wooden gates. They seem to add a charm to the place.

There are many little footpaths to explore. If you are a seasoned walker, the village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, but if you are just visiting for the day, Hartington has something for everyone.
