Exploring La Coruña on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas

One of the highlights of our cruise on Liberty of the Seas was visiting the beautiful Spanish city of La Coruña, located in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain.

After arriving at the cruise terminal, we found that La Coruña was very easy to explore on foot. The city centre is just a short walk from the port, making it ideal for cruise passengers who want to explore without needing transport (or paying for it). Thankfully, even though it was warm and sunny, it was cooler, so it was much better for walking around.

Our first stop was María Pita Square, the city's main square. Surrounded by impressive buildings and lively cafés. It is named after the local heroine who helped defend La Coruña against the English in the 16th century. Bloody English! It is a lovely place to sit with a coffee and enjoy people watching. It also boasts the gorgeous City Hall (or Palacio Municipal).

The city also has a long seafront promenade, which is perfect for a relaxing walk or a dip in the sea. Along the way, you'll find beaches, sculptures and beautiful views of the coastline. This is the Fountain of the Surfers. It’s a cool bronze statue that honours the city's local surf scene. Built back in 1992, it's a super popular spot for taking photos with the ocean in the background!

Acisclo Manzano's sculpture commemorates the 1803 Vaccine Expedition from La Coruña, honouring Isabel Zendal and the orphaned children who helped bring the smallpox vaccine to the world.

On a sunny day, it's easy to see why both locals and visitors enjoy spending time here. Our cruise ship looked really impressive in the distance.

From here, we wandered through the old town, with its narrow streets, colourful buildings and small shops.

Shopoholics will also find plenty of options, from Spanish brands to small independent boutiques. There are also markets and bakeries where you can pick up local treats to take back to the ship. After a few hours of exploring, it was time to head back to Liberty of the Seas.

Overall, La Coruña is a lovely cruise destination. It is clean, walkable and full of history, culture and beautiful coastal scenery. Whether you enjoy sightseeing, shopping, sculptures, street performers, relaxing by the sea or simply wandering through historic streets, there's something here for everyone. If your cruise itinerary includes La Coruña, it's definitely an interesting port that's worth stepping ashore to explore.

That was a very nice cruise travel, good thing you just walked from the port athen you reached to explore this very beautiful place with a stunning architectures.
Yes, it's hard work walking in the heat.
La Coruna is another port that I went but can't remember anything about it 😅
How was the ship? Looks like there's loads of fun activities at the top deck
It's quite family orientated as there's a water park and various sporting activities. Lots of different nationalities on board, which I like. Thankfully, no Trump supporters!
My brother and sister in law are currently on a Princess ship in Europe somewhere, just saw their photos with loads of 4th July celebrations all over!!
Yes, they did a balloon drop here.
I noticed these boutique brands recently and would love to explore them...
I'm not a girly girl so I was more interested in the football shirts. 😆
😅 Did you buy anything?
Apart from numerous coffees (one called Jaimicano, which is coffee, cream and rum), I also bought a t-shirt. 😁
