A Walk Shortened by the Heat

I visited the Avenue Washlands Nature Reserve, hoping to enjoy a nice walk and take some photos.

The first thing I noticed was how good the wild flowers looked. There were so many that they made the reserve feel full of life. I've never seen it looking so pretty.

It was good to see dog walkers were being sensible and not walking their dogs in this heat. I do miss seeing my favourite pooches, though.

While walking around, I also spotted some peacock butterflies and bees on the buddleia bushes. They were lovely to see, although as usual, they wouldn’t stay still for long enough for me to get the perfect photo.

I had prepared for the heat by wearing a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of suncream. We are having another heatwave, so walking outdoors can be hard going at times. In some parts of the reserve, the grass looked scorched. However, despite being prepared, it was still too hot to fully enjoy the walk. The high temperatures meant I had to cut my visit short and walk for much less time than I had planned.

Even though I didn’t spend as long exploring as I would have liked, it was still a lovely visit. The wild flowers, butterflies, bees, and peaceful surroundings gave me some good photo opportunities. The Nature Reserve is definitely blossoming with the sunny days we are having. I hope to return on a cooler day for a longer walk.
