A Walk on the Erewash Canal, UK
There was no rain today, and the sun was out, so we decided to have a walk on the Erewash Canal that runs through the counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, UK. There are a lot of walking opportunities in this area. On part of the canal there is the picturesque Sandiacre Lock (Bridge No 8).
The lockkeeper's cottage and toll house are now a museum and are open to the public. It is run by volunteers from the Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association.
In the past, the canal was mainly used to transport coal out of the coal mines in the Erewash Valley area and down to the River Trent for trading in nearby Nottingham and Leicester.
I love walking under an autumn tree tunnel. There is something quite magical about it.
Well Halloween is approaching ...
The canal is a lovely place to have a nice quiet walk as it's mostly flat with lots of birdlife to spot. You can stop off along the way as there are eating places for a drink or a bite to eat. It's a testament to the volunteers for all their hard work keeping the canals looking so good. There are a lot of friendly boat owners to chat to as well.

It feels so fresh, even through the screen… so I imagine cycling around there must be truly delightful. And if I spot a swan, well—that would make the experience even better. Yes, yes—I know I’ll see more birds among the greenery… it’s a luxury, and magical. Thank you for taking us there. That Halloween image 🤣 so eerie if you happen to be walking, looking the other way, and it suddenly pops up. Haha, just kidding.
