A Visit to Houghton Hall and Gardens, King's Lynn, Norfolk, UK

During our recent trip to Norfolk, we visited Houghton Hall and Gardens in King's Lynn. The estate was built in the 1720s for Sir Robert Walpole, who served as Great Britain's first Prime Minister. Today, Houghton Hall is the residence of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley. Source

As we approached the Hall, it really stood out by its impressive architecture and lovely surroundings.

Inside, we were able to explore the different rooms to look at the beautiful artwork and furnishings on the walls. I wouldn't like to be the one who has to clean the curtains.

The Soldier Museum is the world's largest private collection of model soldiers. It was started in 1928 by the 6th Marquess of Cholmondeley, who served in the Army during World War II. Source

After touring the Hall, we made our way out to the gardens. The gardens had manicured lawns, beautiful flower beds, and well cut hedges.

In the gardens, there was sculptor Anthony Gormley's human figure sculptures called 'time horizon'. These sculptures were quite unusual and thought-provoking, especially the ones embedded in the ground!

One of the highlights of the visit was coming across a herd of white deer.

Overall, we spent a few hours there, and it was definitely worth a visit. The grounds and gardens were beautiful.

I don't think I have either. All deer are nice though. Everyone loves Bambi. 🙂

It left me traumatised as a kid when Bambi's mum got killed. I've hated Walt Disney ever since. 😁

Quite a grand old place with beautiful garden. Such intricate interior design. The sculptures were from Neptune!
