A Seaside Stroll Around Saltburn-by-the-Sea

There’s nothing better than a day at the coast for some fresh sea air. We headed over to Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the North Yorkshire (UK) coast for a wander along the beach.

It was a bit overcast today, but there were a few brave people sitting on the beach with their picnic blankets, despite it not being the warmest of days.

Nearby, we spotted a bronze cat sculpture sitting above the sand.

Saltburn has colourful beach huts along the seafront, which people can hire for the day to relax and enjoy the seaside.

One of the little beach huts caught our eye. The red hut was called "Elizabeth", and a local woman was sitting outside on a deckchair reading a book, with her little black dog keeping her company.

The beach is also popular for surfing. You can often see trailers with surfboards ready for lessons or to hire on the sand.

We also saw something moving around out in the sea. We couldn't tell whether they were porpoises or dolphins, as they were too far away to be sure.

We headed out onto the pier, which gives you a great view back towards the cliffs.

Looking down from the pier, there were gulls scattered across the wet sand. One younger, mottled gull was wandering around amongst the others.

Up on the promenade, we saw a row of wooden fishing boats sitting on trailers, each attached to a tractor and parked in its numbered bay.

As we walked past the shops, we came across some local artwork, including these rather unusual metal octopus tentacles being used as door handles at a café.

Typical luck, the Saltburn Cliff Tramway was closed for repairs while we were there. There were bright red barriers around the Victorian lift house, so instead we had to walk up the steep path.

Still, the walk up was worth it for the view from the top, looking back down over the pier and beach pavilion. All in all, it was a really nice day out at Saltburn-by-the-Sea and a lovely chance to explore the coast.

Thank you. It's interesting how coastal towns can have that similar vibe across the sea. I appreciate you reading!
