A Pootle Around the Village

It was another lovely day today. It actually felt like summer as I had a walk around my village ponds. I expect if the warm weather continues, we will all start moaning it's too hot. The wood pigeon was having a breather on the fencing.

The big pond with the boat house looked particularly nice. I saw lots of big carp coming up to the surface of the water.

Lots more activity on the ponds with mallard ducklings and coot chicks.

My dog sitting duties have commenced. I'm looking after my friend's black labrador for a couple of weeks. We went straight down to the playing fields for a good walk to tire him out. He's quite used to me, so he's settled in right away. Early morning walks for me now!

He was determined to dirty his new harness.

There's lots of pretty forget-me-not flowers around at the moment. Their name allegedly comes from an old folk lore suggesting a knight in armour was walking with his lover alongside a river. After he falls into the water, he throws a bouquet of the flower to his lover shouting, "forget-me-not!" Not sure how a knight in armour managed to fall in the river, but believe what you will. The blossom of the crab apple tree smelt lovely and sweet. The apples when grown are quite sour though. It's been a good year so far.
