A Few Finds on My Village Walk

​I took a leisurely walk around the village ponds today. Everything looked so green and lush, bursting with life. The highlight was watching the dragonflies. There were so many of them zooming back and forth over the water like tiny helicopters. I tried to snap a few photos, but they were way too fast and just wouldn't settle down!

The pink Wildherb flower was looking lovely at the side of the pond ...

... and a wood pigeon was sitting quietly in the trees, keeping an eye on everything below.

I spotted a ladybird hiding inside the dried seed head of wild carrot. As their seeds mature and dry out, the flower head curls tightly inward to form a type of "nest" shape, creating a safe shelter for insects, like the ladybird.

​A Painted Lady butterfly also rested nearby. It was very pretty, with its orange, black, and white wings.

On my way back, I noticed damsons hanging over the footpath. They're not ripe yet, but the owner says anyone passing by is welcome to help themselves when they are.

It was a pleasant way to spend the morning, even if the dragonflies refused to pose for the camera. I'll have to see if I can catch them on a calmer day.
