Are You Feeling A Bit Squirrelly?……..My Actifit Report Card: April 24 2026
Feeling a bit squirrelly? If so, you’ve come to the right place! TGIF everybody! 😎
I’ve recently been having a bit of a battle-an early one really, with my resident squirrel. He’s after the birdseed that’s fallen on the ground. No big deal except he’s ripping at the violas planted at the base of the shepherd’s hook that houses the bird feeder! He’s very plump and a bit on the large side, so that got me wondering about the squirrels here in the Pacific Northwest.
We essentially have two varieties of grays. The Western Gray Squirrel is native here but not so common anymore. The Eastern Gray was introduced in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s for aesthetic viewing pleasure in parks and school campuses. Little did anyone realize they were somewhat aggressive in their habits, especially when it comes to food!
They are bolder and can run the Western Grays out of the area. They are very adaptable to urban and suburban areas. They build leaf nests called dreys in tree cavities. They bury their caches of nuts in many places and can remember where those nuts are! They are active year round and do not hibernate.
Here’s a picture of the Gray and Western squirrel side by side for comparison.
The Western Gray is shy and a bit larger. They prefer forested areas and oak woodlands over the city. They have been declining due to competition from the Eastern Grays, diseases and habitat loss.
I’m fairly certain that all of my pictures are of the Eastern Grays. Enjoy!
The Western Grays are considered a species of concern in Washington State.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the post and are feeling a bit less squirrelly! 🐿️
That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

BSB 1 Peter 5:6-9
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.

Thanks to Steve the Squirrel, I've counted about 6 walnuts he's buried in my Strawberry pots so far. 🌰🐿
These are not the edible type of walnuts popping out of my strawberries either.
I planned another expedition to a local nursery.
Enjoy the weekend Sis!

Very nice! Hello to your resident squirrel 😆 Looks like it's feeling right at home there. Don't think we have squirrels here. I hope your plants will be well protected from the little guy. Do enjoy your weekend!
