Did you know there's a city in Colombia with the same name as Caracas, founded on the same day, and that even shares a similar saying? 🧐 Santiago de Cali was founded on July 25th, it's a Leo ♌ and says with pride: "Cali is Cali and the rest is just hills." It's 31 years older than its sister city, Santiago de León de Caracas, which was also born on a July 25th, and with the same feline arrogance, claims "Caracas is Caracas and the rest is jungle and snakes" 🐍. También hay una de ellas que es capital, pero la otra pareciera infravalorada por los habitantes de su propio país hasta que por fin la visitan. Esa es Cali. Solo imagina por un segundo que no tienes la posibilidad de ir a una fiesta, sino de ser la fiesta 💃. Llegar a un sitio donde las calles vibran, las luces bailan ✨, la gente sonríe desde el corazón ❤️ y te vuelve protagonista. Because Cali is Cali. Cali calls itself the world capital of salsa 🌍💃 because of the way it lives this genre in the streets — and that’s undeniable. If you know even a little about salsa history, you'll know it wasn’t born in Colombia, and has no global legends born there. But you'll also know that even though salsa was born in New York, from Cuban son montuno 🇨🇺, the name was coined in Venezuela 🇻🇪 and the top icons are Puerto Rican 🇵🇷. The truth is Cali holds the highest number of world titles in salsa dancing, thanks to its unique dancing style: it's as if their feet move like a 2x WhatsApp voice note 📲, with incredible force, and their favorite move is to launch into the air and land perfectly on the "one", almost effortlessly 🕺. Cali wakes up late due to the hangover caused by its endless party nights 🌙 — it starts slow and easy.

Es que Cali es Cali. Cali se autodenomina la capital mundial de la salsa 🌍💃 por su manera de vivir este género en la calle, y de eso no hay duda. Si sabes mínimamente algo de historia de la salsa, sabrás que no nació en Colombia, que no tiene leyendas mundiales nacidas allí, pero seguro también sabes que aunque la salsa nació en Nueva York a partir del son montuno de Cuba 🇨🇺, el nombre del género se dio en Venezuela 🇻🇪 y los principales exponentes son indiscutiblemente de Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. La verdad es que Cali tiene la mayor cantidad de títulos mundiales de bailarinas de salsa por esa manera tan única en la que bailan: es algo así como que sus pies van en una nota de voz que escuchas a 2x en WhatsApp 📲, su fuerza es determinante y su figura favorita es lanzarse por los aires y caer perfectamente en el uno, casi sin ningún esfuerzo 🕺. Cali es una ciudad que se despierta tarde por el ratón que le producen las eternas noches de fiesta 🌙, arranca lento y de a poco.

Como quien no quiere la cosa, llena sus lugares en la tardecita de gente que pide a gritos un levantamuerto, un aborrajado, una cerveza para engraparla 🍺, algo que le haga decidir que este día también van a seguir dando la toda, aunque crean que no puedan, que el cuerpo no da para más 😮‍💨. Calurosísima en el año, pero en diciembre se engalana con su invierno de 20 grados 🌡️, sin que la detengan unas gotas de lluvia en plena feria. El predespacho son los gatos intervenidos del río, un Cristo o un cerro, el alumbrado masivo con mapping, el museo de la salsa o cualquier parche de tarde 🐈‍⬛🌄. Pero todos esperan ese susurro colectivo que decida que ese tarantín se volverá de pronto un rumbón definitivo 🪘. Que ese sea el llamado tácito para quedarse en la calle. Entonces, de pronto, la ciudad se vuelve una orquesta, una compañía de baile, un sudor en la frente, una coreografía donde todo el mundo azota baldosa en pleno asfalto con sus zapatos de goma 👟. Quizás es que le sube más la música, que hay más gente, que convierte los parques, las autopistas y las afueras de los bares en fiestas gratuitas monumentales 🎇, que hay un salsódromo donde todas las compañías de salsa de la ciudad desfilan con sus mejores coreografías 💃🕺, que hay restaurantes que presentan espectáculos de salsa con los bailarines del Super Bowl de JLo, que aparece el súper concierto con su junta de estrellas ⭐… o todo lo anterior. Pero lo cierto es que la fiesta se siente más, la alegría se pone más de manifiesto y la Navidad se abraza bailando 🎄💃. Porque Cali es Cali, señoras y señores… lo demás es loma 🔥.
