Hey dear Hive community, first of all I hope that you are all well and you had a day that was full of positive experiences! Today I would like to talk about art history and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.

Here you can see three works by the artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (1884 - 1976) who is also known for his wonderful expressionist works. Karl was born as the son of a miller in Dresden and he studied architecture and at the same time he developed a great interest in painting and he was also a member of the artist group called Brücke which I already mentioned in one of my posts yesterday. Together with this group, he exhibited some works and after the group was dissolved, he became a member of numerous other groups and artistic circles and he was better known for sharing this passion with others and has always searched contact with other artists. During the time of the First World War he was called to the front and after the war he decided to marry his wife Emmy Fritsch and in the coming years he was considered very experimental when it comes to art and devoted himself to several different motifs and for a few years he even became a member of an art academy in Prussia. There he had little luck and had to leave the academy again for a few years because he was thrown out by the director and he was generally considered a very oppressed artist and some of his works were even destroyed at that time. Almost 600 of his artworks were destroyed and at times he was even deprived of the right to paint, despite this oppression he was not prevented from continuing to pursue his activity and he particularly liked to paint landscapes as one can be seen in this picture. The choice of colors as well as the spatial perception are particularly well expressed in his works and you can definitely notice the passion he had invested in his works and despite the numerous attempts at oppression, it is remarkable that he did not let himself be dissuaded from his passion. After the Second World War, he was called up as a professor at an academy of art and he was generally able to achieve some successes as a painter and he was also committed to the promotion of young artists and became a member of numerous associations that revolve around art and until his death he remained faithful to art.
