Here you can see a Campana relief which has been made of terracotta and is based on Greek mythology and supposed to represent the goddess of wisdom Athena and in Athens, which has been named after her, festivities were celebrated in her honor and this motive is intended to express this better. This fragment comes from ancient Rome and were probably produced during the 1st century AD and were made to decorate buildings with it and it was typical that it was based on mythological or historical themes and workshops that had focused on production made these fragments in large quantities. It mainly decorated the houses of nobles and it was named after Giampietro Campana (1808 - 1880) who was one of the most important art collectors in Italy and he had one of the largest collections of these reliefs and also specialized in collecting other works of art. Campana was also one of the first who went more into the research of these artifacts and contributed a large part to bringing the topic more to the public and typical it was that these reliefs were placed in the interior as well as outside of the houses and it was a good way for the Romans to capture their everyday life or religious for coming generations and most of them were probably produced in the area of Rome and also influences from ancient Greece can often be seen. It is a good example of mass productions from the Roman Empire which existed in various forms and during this time there was also a fundamental change in architecture and wood was more and more replaced by stone and Campana reliefs were very suitable in this regard.
