The Artist Hubert von Herkomer

Good day dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a day that was full of positive experiences! Today I would like to talk about art history and present an interesting personality and hope you can expand your knowledge.

Here you can see a wonderful painting by the German-British painter Hubert von Herkomer (1849 - 1914) who was considered a very diverse personality and in addition to his passion for painting, he also devoted himself to sculpture, music, photography, goldsmithing, writing and he was also known for his films and plays. He was born as an only child and as his parents are Josephine Niggl and Lorenz Herkomer and in this painting you can also see a portrait of his mother as well as the artistic coat of arms and he was strongly promoted by his parents when it comes to art, who were already aware before his birth that their son was supposed to become an artist. During his childhood he only attended school for a short time and was mainly taught by his parents themselves and after reaching adulthood he decided to attend an art school in Germany and he came around a lot and his parents often moved and they moved to England to the city of Southhampton where his artistic career continued and he studied at an art school and during his time in England, he organized his first exhibitions and made a name for himself as a painter and he made many contacts and met different artists who inspired his works.

At the beginning he mainly used oil or watercolors and later he decided to move to London and he was lucky enough to be able to live there with acquaintances of the family and some time later he moved into his own apartment and in London he also made a name for himself as an illustrator and created illustrations for years and over time his popularity grew more and more and he was able to live well on his income and also promoted some art projects. He received many honors and was strongly praised for his works and over time he received more and more attention from different sides and his works were exhibited in different countries and a few years later he even opened his own school where art was taught. His passion for other branches of art came only in his later years and he also often organized festivals or car races and he preferably lived in England, but often visited his Germany where he also built some buildings and he was also known for leading social projects and he also put a lot on promoting art and culture. He was considered a typical freethinker and he also wanted to spread this ideology further and at his art school at the time the focus was on free thinking and he also wanted to bring this close to his students and it is really remarkable how diverse Hubert von Herkomer was and he was also considered very eager to experiment and was also known to be interested in technology.
