The Artist Edgar Degas
Hey dear community, at the beginning I would also like to welcome everyone to my new contribution and hope you had a day which has brought some interesting experiences into your life! In this article, I would like to write something about art history and hope you can learn new things about this legendary artist.
You can see here a artwork by the French painter Edger Degas (1834 - 1917) who is considered one of the best-known representatives of impressionism and before his career as an artist, he studied law but he realised that his passion is art and so he decided to attend the art school École des Beaux-Arts in the year 1855. Even before this time, his interest in art became stronger and he began to use his spare time and decided to orient himself to well-known artists and to copy the works of artists of the Renaissance and also learned a lot from the French painter Louis Lamothe (1822 - 1869) who inspired him in many ways and also taught him. He made many trips to Italy and got to know a lot about the culture there and was influenced by Italian artists and the style should have a great influence on his works and he created more and more paintings and began to build up an identity as an artist, but at the beginning he was rather in the underground and avoided the general public. Degas developed a strong passion for opera and ballet and he also got a chance to work at the Paris Opera and his favourite motifs were ballet dancers or scenes that were connected with the opera and he even withdrew from the public for some time and only later after he travelled to America where he lived with his brother in New Orleans, he decided to make more out of his art and in the following years he visited in Paris exhibitions. He also made some contacts with other artists and began to present his works together with the group, but he left them again and decided to do his own thing and he can also be generally regarded as very mysterious and withdrawn. In 1889 there were some health problems in his life and he became blind and even had to give up painting completely, but this should not keep him from art and he decided to devote himself to sculpture and produced numerous works and in 1917, he died in Paris and is now considered one of the well-known artists who has inspired thousands of other artists.
