Symbolism and Mythology of the Lake

Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you had a start to the weekend which brought one or the other positive experience into your life! Here are some pictures of a lake and I would like to specifically address the symbolism and mythology associated with it and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.

I recently took these pictures on a trip and you can see a lake with relatively good exposure and the weather was also good enough that you could see in an enchanting mountain panorama in the distance. Moments like these are really a soothing experience and fittingly, the lake is often associated with harmony and serenity and it all depends on how strong the waves are and a calm lake is associated with a peaceful mood while a stormier one is associated with conflicts or negativity. As a life donor, the element water is generally linked to fertility or female characteristics and is also considered a sign of creative power and it is also of great importance in the symbolism of alchemy and without this important element, no production process would work. It can be said that the symbolism associated with the lake is even more far-reaching and includes everything related to it such as boats, anchors, shells, aquatic animals and more. Often the lake is also associated with the subconscious and is also often regarded as a mirror of the soul which creates a gateway to the inner soul and many artists have been inspired by landscapes like these and whether it is the lake, the sea or a pond, water is still one of the most popular motifs for painters and has strongly shaped various epochs. The gentle sound of the waves also provides a lot of inspiration as well as a quiet and serene atmosphere and depending on the season it creates a whole mood of its own on the viewer, at this time of year the landscape looks more depressing than in spring when the trees show more their color diversity again and when boats can be seen the lake also looks more lively. It can be said that the symbolism is much more far-reaching and each culture has its own views when it comes to lakes or other waters.

Even in mythology, the lake is often found and is often associated with female natural spirits who are also known as nymphs and especially the Naiads are also associated with waters. Often the god of the sea Poseidon is also associated with waters of all kinds such as lakes and the Celts also associated their own gods with the lake like the god Manannán who was considered a personification of it and the Japanese had their own lake god called Watatsumi. Where a great cult around waters is also developing in ancient Egypt and the ancient Egyptians were known to worship several gods who were associated with waters and an example of this is the goddess Chnum and also in other cultures there are some deities that are connected to the lake. Often there are many legends about creatues that inhabit the lakes such as monsters and mythical creatures such as the monster of loch ness and some others and often there is also talk of mermaids who live there. Often it is not always a good idea to go into the lake and especially at night there are sometimes creatues that can pull you into the water and it is a very bad idea to deal with the power of the lake. To this day, numerous legends and fairy tales are created on the basis of lakes and it is a great opportunity for artists to let their thoughts and inspiration run wild.
