Good day dear Hive community, welcome to my new post and I hope you have a nice Saturday which is full of positive experiences! Today I would like to introduce you to a mineral a little closer and hope you can learn something new.

This black mineral is called Shungite and you can see two different quality levels here. You can see here raw stones with a not so high quality in the following two pictures and a carbon content of 40-70% and noble or elite shuntite which has a purity of 70-98%. One feature of Elite Shungite is the property that it reflects well and has a smooth, often black to gray surface and another rather rare property is that Shungite conducts electricity.

Name of this Mineral derives from the location Shun'ga where it was found in 1877, a village in Karelia. Shungite is also considered one of the oldest minerals in the world and researchers assume that it is already 2 billion years old. The main found locations are Russia, Finland, Spain or India and one of the best-known mining areas is Shun'ga. The main component of shungite is carbon, but additives of quartz, chlorite and fullerite can also be found.

Shungite has more areas of application and it is well suited for processing jewelry such as necklaces, earrings or bracelets. Also in industry, it is often found in filters as a replacement for the typical coal and is also used for the production of car tires and also generally as a dye due to the typical black pigments, shuntgite is very suitable.

Shungite is also very popular as a healing stone and is said to have more properties. It is probably also interesting that it is able to act against electrosmog and partially neutralize it, this effect can also be measured well with the right devices. It is also used a lot as a general healing stone against various diseases or as a companion for meditation and it can help, for example to balance the chakra system and reduce stress.

Externally worn it also said to have rejuvenating, pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it very valuable from a therapeutic point of view. Shungite is also often used to energize water and the production of Shungite water is an uncomplicated process. As always, no matter what disease, you should ask your trusted doctor about the right medicine, use and side effects!

I think due to high carbon content its color is Black. Good to know about its properties. Many of the minerals are well suited for jewelery. Thanks for sharing such a nice information.

Very cool! Those high quality ones actually look like volcanic glass with the fracture pattern and sharp edges. It's interesting that it conducts electricity. Very interesting, thanks!

True, looks really similar :) This characteristic is also very useful for identifying shungite counterfeits, which unfortunately are often on the market.

It's quite strange that it conducts the electricity being higher content in carbon.

Probably one of the most important characteristics to check the authenticity.
