This mineral that can be seen here is called selenite and it is a variety of gypsum and belongs to the mineral class of sulfates. Selenite is also called moonstone and goes back to the Greek word for moon Selene and is also associated with the moon goddess Selene from Greek mythology. Normally, selenite is white, but can also take on other colors such as pink, orange, pink, gray or green due to connections with other minerals or impurities.

Selenite was first described in 1747 and can be formed by various methods such as by crystallization by evaporation of seawater or in the oxidation zones of sulphide-containing ore deposits. It is a rather soft mineral which usually has transparent or opaque manifestations and is rarely processed into jewelry due to the hardness. It is a rather common mineral and the best-known places of discovery include Italy, Germany, Mexico, Peru and Morocco.

Already in ancient times, selenite was used as a building material and for the production of various works of art such as bowls or vessels and also glass were made from it. Especially the pure and clear crystals were processed into glass and the use as glass goes back to ancient Rome and it was also used as a thickener by industry. Selenite was also used as a healing stone in the past and is still very popular today.

Symbolically, selenite is associated with the moon and the zodiac sign Leo and is also often associated with positivity or creativity. It can help to create more clarity from a spiritual point of view and improve access to the subconscious. It can also influence the third eye, which is known as the pineal gland and help to open it and often selenite is also associated with intuition and can help to improve the psychic abilities and from a medical point of view it can help against inflammation. As always, with alternative medicine, you should ask your doctor about the right medicine and application!

especially found it interesting to learn about the history of selenite. It's been used for a variety of purposes throughout history, including as a building material, a source of glass, and a healing stone.

I also found it interesting to learn about the symbolic meaning of selenite. It's associated with the moon, the zodiac sign Leo, and positivity and creativity. It's also said to help with clarity, intuition, and psychic abilities.

I'm also curious about the medical benefits of selenite. I've heard that it can help with inflammation, but I'd like to learn more about that. I'll have to do some research on that.
