Dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you to my new post and hope you are doing well and your day is full of positive experiences! Today I would like to introduce a new mineral a little more closely and hope you can learn something new.

Pictures of the mineral Safflorite can be seen here, which also belongs to the mineral class of sulfides and sulfo salts and the origin can be traced back to hydrothermal origins and can usually be found in cobalt deposits. The current name can be traced back to the minerlaogist August Breithaupt (1791 - 1873) who named the mineral in the 19th century and although it is relatively rare, it is also used as ore for the extraction of cobalt. The content of cobalt is usually over 25% high and in addition it has high levels of arsenic and therefore you should always be careful when handling the mineral because of the toxic properties. The crystals usually have a rather inconspicuous appearance and one of the properties is that the heating of the mineral creates a smell which is something reminiscent of garlic and is due to the high arsenic value. Many arsenic minerals have this property in common and the vapors that are generated are highly toxic and in addition, the mineral should also be protected from air because it can change the appearance of the surface due to too much influence. Among the most important places of discovery of Safflorite are Sweden, Germany, Mexico, Greece as well as Spain and mineral collectors should definitely keep an eye on it.
