Myosotis in Mythology
Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you have a weekend full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to discuss the mythology of a plant and hope you can expand your knowledge.
Here you can see pictures of a charming blue forget-me-not which is also known under the scientific name Myosotis and there are various interpretations about the origin. According to Greek mythology, it was named by the Greek god Zeus who was just in the process of naming the plants of the earth and he was of the opinion that he had already named them all until one flower regretted that Zeus had forgotten it and then he decided to name it forget-me-not and it was also considered as a magical plant by the Greeks. A legend from the Middle Ages says that once a girl drowned in the river and before she went down she just called forgot me not and near this place this plant grew and there are different variations of this legend and it is also often said that a knight went for a walk together with his wife and on the way he discovered this flower which he wanted to give her. While he was picking the flower, he fell into the water and from a symbolic point of view it is often associated with eternal love and it is probably also interesting that it bears the same name all over the world. Even in the Middle Ages there were interpretations that it could be a magical plant and would be under the strong protection of dwarfs or other nature spirits and probably people could even use the flowers as a key to open treasure chests and find hidden things. Often the forget-me-not is also associated with secret knowledge and whoever collects a bouquet of it could open the doors to hidden knowledge and probably the plant also had some magical abilities. It has also gained an important meaning as a medicinal plant and already in ancient cultures it was known that it was possible to use it in a variety of ways against complaints and pretty much all parts of the plant were used for these purposes and even today there are some areas of application. As always, it is important to mention that in the case of illness, you should always ask your trusted doctor or pharmacist about the right dosage or possible side effects to avoid complications!
Thanks a lot for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about mythology! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
