Mezereum (Daphne mezereum)
Hey dear Hive Community, hopefully you are doing well and enjoy your day! Yesterday I took some pictures of some flowers, and would like to bring you a little closer to one in this post. I hope you like my contribution!
I found the plant that can be seen here in a forest area and it bears the common name mezereum, scientifically Daphne mezereum and this plant is mainly widespread in Europe. Daphne mezereum can usually be found in foliage or mixed forests, preferably on permeable and humus-rich soil.
Sunny or semi-shaded places are ideal for healthy growth and Daphne mezereum usually reaches an average size between 40-150 cm, the flowering period usually starts around March, so I am happy to have already found one of it!
This plant should only be observed, because it is very toxic and should not be eaten and furthermore, this plant is also protected in some countries! Although Daphne mezereum is toxic to humans, it offers bees, butterflies and other insects pollen and from June berries form, which birds offer a great source of food. For birds these berries are not poisonous, but I can only mention again that it is highly toxic to humans and everyone should keep the hands off it!
By the way, the botanical name Daphne derives from Greek mythology and is connected with the nymph Daphne. In the old folk beliefs, people thought that a secret was hidden in this plant and that it could open the gates to hidden treasure. I always find it interesting to learn the myths and legends associated with plants!
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you like my new contribution! I used my my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 and 55-210 mm lens to take these pictures!
So beautiful colour flower
Thanks a lot!
As beautiful to look at and innocent as this flower is, it is poisonous to eat for human being۔ But as far as the photos are concerned, there is no doubt that the photos are very good captured.
I'm happy you like my pictures! Stay well and have a nice day dear @tornad
Wao what a great and amazing photography. I am also very fond of taking pictures of flowers, which I do every time I go to the park. Thanks for sharing this informative detail about this flower.
Thanks for stopping by and your nice feedback!
Most welcome dear.
You like everything related to mythology, well you say so and it's easy to see when reading your posts, when you say it's toxic to humans, then you say it's not toxic to birds, it's strange that birds exceed toxicity e the plant, but it is another of those details of life that leave us somewhat perplexed, obviously it must have its reason for being.
That's true! I have been informing myself about mythology of different cultures for a longer time now. Maybe a boring topic for some, but very important to me. I also think it's good that you're also interested in how I realized! It's always great to meet like-minded people in some ways! :) I also find it interesting to see that with more plants it is the case that the berries or certain parts are toxic to humans but not for animals.
