Mexican Snowball (Echeveria elegans)
Good day dear Hive community, I hope you all had a nice week full of positive experiences and I would also like to wish you a great start to the weekend! In this post, I would like to present a plant a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge.
You can see here a plant that originally comes from Mexico and is known under the common name Mexican Snowball or scientifically Echeveria elegans. Originally it comes from the desert areas of Mexico but you can also find it in Texas and due to its origin it has become accustomed to being able to store the water well and requires little care and the leaves have formed a kind of layer which they can protect from sunlight. It is a very compact plant which due to the moderate size is very well suited as a houseplant and from May also flowers forms which have a pink or orange appearance and it was named in the 18th Century in honor of the Mexican naturalist and draughtsman Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy (1771 - 1803). It can also stand outside without any problems during the warm summer times, but is not hardy and urgently needs to be brought to a winter quarter before the first frost and in winter it almost does not have to be watered and is recommended for anyone looking for a robust plant with an interesting origin.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!

Its thick leaves shows how they survive in deserts, in a harsh environment.
That’s right! It is also interesting to see how a kind of layer of wax can be seen on the leaves, which also protects it well from sunlight.
