Jacobsite Mineral
Hey dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a wonderful day! Here I would like to bring you a mineral a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge.
Here you can see a specimen of Jacobsite which can also be counted among the mineral class of oxides and it is a relatively rare mineral that is popular in circles of collectors or researchers. In the past, it was still used as ore due to the content of manganese, but nowadays it is no longer of interest for these purposes due to the rarity and it was discovered for the first time in Sweden near the Jakobsberg, after which it was also named at that time. The first descriptions can be traced back to the French mineralogist Augustin Alexis Damour (1808 - 1902) who had researched numerous different minerals and their chemical composition and he undertook many trips to pursue his research. The formation of Jacobsite can be traced back by the conversion of other manganese-containing minerals and usually it is found together with braunite, galaxite, coronadite and other minerals and the appearance can vary greatly and often it has a dark to black color. Rarely do the crystals become larger than a few millimeters and also have the property of being magnetic and can be particularly important in the field of research with magnetism. So far, only about 200 different locations worldwide it has been found and among the best-known are England, Mexico, Africa, Spain or France.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about minerals! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
