Recently I discovered this wasp nest and it is typical that these insects often build nests near civilisations and usually colonize places which are well protected from the weather like under the roof and wasps are known to live for an annual cycle and next year the queen is looking for a new place to build a new nest. Inside the nest there is a homb-like structure and the gray nest itself is made of wood and the queen together with the other wasps is usually looking for old wood nearby and is using this for the construction and depending on the size of the nest, thousands of wasps can live there and this can vary depending on the species. Often people are not very enthusiastic when they discover one of these nests and remove it, but from an ecological point of view it can be advisable to leave them because they only inhabit the nests in summer and are empty in winter and can then be removed and in addition, the insects are more useful from an ecological point of view than some would suspect. In mythology, wasps are often regarded as mystical insects and can also be regarded as bearers of messages from other worlds and is also considered symbols of regeneration or transformation and already in ancient Egypt you can find traces of wasps and there was the goddess Ahti who was depicted with the head of a wasp. Wasps also appear often in ancient Greece and were mentioned in some writings which confirmed how fascinated the Greeks were by the way of life of this insects and were sometimes considered as divine beings and wasps also appear again and again in the history of the art. From an ecological point of view, wasps have the ability to pollinate plants and they are also known to destroy harmful insects and if fruit falls to the ground, it is utilized by wasps and it can be said that it plays an important role in the cycle of nature when it comes to biodiversity and who has a nest should play with the idea of simply letting it hang.
