Good day dear community, at the beginning I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day full of great experiences! In this post, I would like to talk a little about nature and hope you can learn new things.

Here you can see pictures of the wintercress which is also known under the scientific name Barbarea vulgaris and is already the second year of blooming. This plant has its origin in Eurasia and has been a valued plant since ancient times, which is particularly appreciated for its healing properties and was cultivated specifically for these purposes and popular was the use of the leaves, which are often mixed into the salad and can have a positive effect on health in many ways because of the numerous active ingredients it contains. The taste is slightly spicy and somewhat reminiscent of other types of cress and the positive effects can mainly be attributed to the contained vitamins, essential oils and flavonoids and it fits particularly well when combined with other salads. As always, I would like to mention here that in case of illness, you always have to ask your doctor or pharmacist of trust for the right medicine as well as possible side effects to avoid complications! It can also be a great choice for insects and some of them can be seen at the flowers, which are becoming increasingly rare and the flowering period begins around May and the yellow flowers offer not only a good source of pollen and nectar, but also a great shelter for some small animals and on the leaves you can often find one or the other caterpillar. It is particularly interesting for some wild species of insects that have specifically focused on it and a good example are wild bees, which are becoming increasingly rare in some places and for everyone who values an ecological garden and wants to support biodiversity, it is a good recommendation. It is relatively easy to care for and is relatively compact from growth and the harvest of the leaves is possible all year round and the flowers can be consumed as well, but it is a good choice to leave them for insects.
