How Cities influence the Psyche
Hello dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that has brought many interesting experiences into your life! In this article, I would like to talk a little about psychology and hope you are able to expand your knowledge a little.
According to estimates, more than half of the world's population live in cities and I would like to discuss the psychological aspects of cities in this article and first it must be mentioned that the effect must be considered individually and the effect depends entirely on how large the city is and in which area people live and it can be roughly said that the bigger the city is, the higher the psychological effects. Not every city is the same and the design also has an additional effect and green areas and leisure activities contribute to well-being and it also depends on whether you are constantly in cities or are only there from time to time and also the culture in cities such as architecture, monuments or works of art have an additional influence on the psyche. Cities are full of different stimuli such as noise, light, smells and other things that affect the senses and it quickly comes to overstimulation which results in a variety of symptoms and these reactions are stored deep in the human subconscious and contribute to people changing behavior. On an emotional basis, cities can change people a lot and the triggered stress goes closely hand in hand with reactions such as anger, fear, paranoia and other stress disorders and these psychological aspects in turn lead to physical symptoms. In cities, the risk of mental illnesses is significantly increased and these permanent sensory overloads and stress also lead to people withdrawing more and looking for a balance and so the risk of addictions is increased and people who grew up in cities also deal differently with stress and brain research has shown that the areas of the brain are more active with people who live in cities than with rural inhabitants. If people live together in a confined space and there are fewer places of retreat and due to social stress, this can lead to people often isolating themselves and it is also interesting that it was found out that extroverted people live more in cities. The environmental influences also have a huge influence and there are large differences between greener cities and also concentrations of air pollution also change the psychological behavior as well as the chemical reactions that take place in the brain and this can be attributed to the fact that air pollution affects some messenger substances in the brain.
Thanks for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about psychology! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
