Ground elder (Aegopodium podagraria)
Hey dear Hive friends, I hope you were able to use your weekend wisely and made one or the other positive experience! In this post I would like to present a wild plant that I photographed recently in the forest.
Ground elder can be seen here, which is also scientifically called Aegopodium podagraria and the distribution area is Europe as well as Eurasia, in North America the plant was integrated. It prefers nitrogen-rich soils and it is usually found in shady as well as humid areas in forests or bushes.
Aegopodium podagraria multiplies independently with the help of underground foothills and proliferates relatively strongly. The flowering period is from May to September and the flowers have a white to a slightly red color. Anyone who plays with the idea of planting it artificially should know that it is very easy to care for, but it should be noted that it will spread uncontrollably!
Ground elder is a medicinal plant that has enjoyed great popularity since ancient times, it is rich in minerals, essential oils and other active ingredients such as isoquercitrin and coumarin. It can have a positive effect on the immune system and in general can stimulate the body's self-healing powers.
It can also help against inflammation or be used as a sedative or against rheumatism. From a medical point of view, the extraction of the active ingredients is very interesting, following the example of the Spagyric. As always, it is very important to know that you should always ask your trusted doctor or pharmacist about the right dosage, application or side effects!
This plant is also known in mythology, in ancient Rome it was used for spiritual purposes, for example as a protection against black magic. Even with the ancient Germanics, the plant was already known and was associated with the thunder god Donar, it was highly revered as a medicinal plant or culinary herb. This old knowledge of medicinal plants is simply something very unique and it is so important that this is maintained!
Thanks for visiting my post and I hope you like it, maybe one or the other could even learn something new! I used my camera Sony Alpha 6000 and Sony SEL-55210 Telephoto Zoom Lens (55-210mm) to take these pictures.
Very good plant photography.
Many thanks
Those are some great pictures of the plant. Well done! Not a plant I'm familiar with but thanks for the interesting facts.
