Grape hyacinths (Muscari neglectum)

Good day dear Hive friends, welcome to my new post and I also and hope you are all productive, creative and your mood is also great! Yesterday I took some pictures of a beautiful flower, which I would like to share with you in this new contribution.

A plant whose flowers have a very special shape can be seen here and the name is Grape hyacinths and scientifically Muscari neglectum. It is a typical early bloomer that already shows its first flowers from March and is very important from an ecological point of view, as it is one of the first food sources for insects.

Name of the genus Muscari comes from the Greek and is derived from the word muschos, which refers to the scent of the flower. The original area of distribution is Asia Minor and it has been cultivated since the 15th century more and more in other continents such as Europe, Africa and America.

The enchanting beautiful blue flowers are often planted in gardens as an ornamental plant and more than 70 different species belong to the genus Muscari. Muscari neglectum prefers a semi-shaded or sunny location and prefers nutrient-poor soils, if you have the right conditions, the plant can reach a size of up to 35 cm.

It is so important to know that in many countries the plant in the wild form is becoming increasingly rare and for this reason it is under nature protection in some countries! It is important to pay attention to this and therefore you should not pick it, the plant is even threatened with extinction, which is just sad.

Many thanks for stopping by and I hope I was able to construct my post in such a way that one or the other could learn something new! I used my camera Sony Alpha 6000 and Sony SEL-55210 Telephoto Zoom Lens (55-210mm) to take these pictures.

The origin of the name of this genus is related to a Greek word and the plant itself originally comes from minor Asia, you have probably misunderstood something. But to answer your question, unfortunately I wasn’t in Greece. Have a nice day :)
