Ecological Benefits of Oenothera

Hey dear Hive friends, first of all I hope that you are well and that you had a positive start to the new week! In this post I would like to present pictures of a plant and go into the ecological benefits and hope you can learn something new.

Here you can see photos of the evening primrose, which is also known under the scientific name Oenothera. In the past, I have already wrote about this plant in more detail and anyone who is interested in my contribution will find it here and in today's contribution I would like to specifically address the ecological benefits. The special thing about this plant is that it has faded after only one day and constantly forms the new flowers which open as soon as most other flowers close theirs. Only in the evening hours do the flowers open, which is why it is particularly a good source of food for insects, which are nocturnal like moths, but also during the day, the scent already attracts different insects.

In addition to the fragrance, evening primroses reflect ultraviolet light and attract living beings at night and even bats love this plant. During the day, it is particularly visited by bumblebees, bees or moths and it also offers a good source of food for some species of caterpillars. Evening primroses have the ability to pollinate themselves or with the help of butterflies and bloom until late in the year until about September and is recommended for everyone who values ecological gardens and a great characteristic is not only the wonderful splendour also that the flowers have the ability reflect in the moon light.
