Here you can see some pictures of Dames violet which is also known under the scientific name Hesperis matronalis and is widespread in the wild form in Europe or Asia where it grows particularly in humid places such as meadows or roadsides. The botanical name is probably associated with the Greek word hesperos for the evening, which refers to the fact that the flowers usually only unfold their scent in the evening and is also visited by nocturnal insects and the pollination can be traced back to moths and in general, the plants have a high ecological value and are visited by numerous species of insects such as butterflies, caterpillars or wild bees which are becoming increasingly rare. The long flowering period also makes it particularly interesting to cultivate and it can generally be classified as extremely easy to care for, which also does not place too high demands on the location and this hardy plant prefers sunny or shady places and optimal is also a nutrient-rich soil. Already in ancient cultures, it was used as a medicinal plant and also the Greek doctor Pedanius Dioscorides mentioned the plant and described the miraculous effect and also the Roman scholar Pliny the elder mentioned Dames violet in his writings and also in the Middle Ages it was very widespread, as always I would like to mention here that in case of illness you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist of trust about the correct use and possible side effects! It is assumed that it was already widespread in the Middle Ages and was particularly often found in gardens and it developed into a major trend until 19th century, but it is still very popular today and is recommended for anyone looking for a plant that gives off a special scent, especially at night, and is also ecologically valuable. It is even possible to obtain an oil from the plant and particularly interesting for these purposes are the seeds which can be squeezed out and the quality of the oil can certainly be compared with others and can also be used for different purposes.
