Here you can see a mineral that has already taken deep roots in ancient cultures and is often associated with wisdom, knowledge or clarity from a symbolic point of view. Azurite has been known for several thousands of years and was especially in ancient Egypt it was already extremely well known for the production of paints or make-up. It was also highly appreciated in old murals and other works of art in ancient Egypt and due to the high content of copper, it was also used as a disinfectant for medical purposes. In ancient Egypt, azurite was also used for the production of jewelry and the typical blue color can be traced back to the high content of copper and in ancient Greece and Rome it was also used and the mineral was powdered to make colors. During the Middle Ages, blue colors were very rare for artists and here, together with Lapis Lazuli Azurite, was also one of the most important minerals that has prevailed especially in Europe, but also in Japan and China it was of great importance as a pigment. It was still used for the production of paints for a very long time until it was replaced in the 18th century and when it comes to the production of colors, Azurite was of enormous importance at that time and if you want to learn more about this exciting topic, I can recommend this article here where I have already gone into more detail about the production of colors from minerals.

Azurite was also of great importance for the dyeing of textiles and due to the growing demand, trade also flourished more and more and a important trading center of azurite in Europe was France and even in the old Roman Empire the popularity grew steadily. As a mineral of wisdom, it was associated with the goddess of wisdom Athena in Greek mythology and the ancient Maya already used azurite for ritual purposes and as a method of obtaining wisdom. Due to the typical blue color, it was also associated with the sky and was often seen as a connection between heaven and earth and the thought that Azurite can help to gain wisdom ran across history. In ancient Egypt, Azurite was associated with the god of heaven Horus and it was also associated with that of the goddess Isis and the mineral was also mentioned in writing by some old alchemists. Azurite is still associated with mystical abilities today and it can help to activate the psychic abilities or to connect with the higher self and also as a healing stone it is still extremely popular today. As always, you have to know that this is alternative medicine and you always have to ask your doctor or pharmacist about the right medicine and use!
