Hi. Today I want to show you the yew tree.
I’ll show you how to look at the yew not just as a shrub, but as a complex, shimmering tapestry of life. As I took these photos, I tried to capture the incredible density of its crown, where every single needle contributes to the overall symphony. The yew doesn’t seem static; it feels as though this carpet of needles breathes and lives its own quiet life. These aren’t just “leaves”—they’re a multitude of tiny, precise brushstrokes with which nature has created this masterpiece.
The uniqueness of this yew specimen lies in the interplay of light and shadow that unfolds across its surface. We see how the lighter, fresher shoots in the foreground gradually give way to darker, deeper shades of blue-green toward the back of the shrub. This creates an effect of depth and movement. The yew isn’t just green; it’s woven from a multitude of shades, ranging from pale green to nearly black, which makes its texture incredibly captivating and vibrant.
What a beautiful plant 🌱

“The texture is just beautiful; that change from pale green to almost black really adds depth. "Brushstrokes" is a perfect description for how those needles look so dense and layered. That 3rd photo with the golden foliage next to the deeper greens is stunning too; great eye for detail!
