February has barely begun, and here in Brazil, people are already getting into the Carnival spirit. When it comes to stereotypes, the country is usually remembered mainly for Carnival and soccer. Brazilians have a strong connection to commemorative dates, and Carnival is undoubtedly one of the most lively celebrations in the country.
During this period, many get carried away by the atmosphere of celebration and freedom. It is as if, for a few days, the rules of everyday life are suspended and people feel freer to act according to their own desires.
O mês de fevereiro mal começou e, aqui no Brasil, as pessoas já entram no clima do Carnaval. Quando se fala em estereótipos, o país costuma ser lembrado principalmente pelo Carnaval e pelo futebol. O brasileiro tem uma forte ligação com datas comemorativas, e o Carnaval, sem dúvida, é uma das celebrações mais animadas do país.
Nesse período, muitos se deixam levar pela atmosfera de festa e liberdade. É como se, por alguns dias, as regras do cotidiano fossem suspensas e as pessoas se sentissem mais livres para agir conforme seus próprios desejos.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Carnival, but I respect those who enjoy it and take advantage of this celebration. When I left college, I came across a Carnival street band: some students in costumes, excited, accompanied by a Military Police orchestra playing typical songs of the season. I was just passing by and took the opportunity to capture a quick snapshot of the scene.
Sinceramente, não sou muito fã do Carnaval, mas respeito quem gosta e aproveita essa festa. Ao sair da faculdade, me deparei com um bloquinho de Carnaval: alguns alunos fantasiados, animados, acompanhados por uma orquestra da Polícia Militar tocando músicas típicas da época. Eu apenas passava pelo local e aproveitei o momento para fazer um pequeno registro da cena.
Carnival is not just about partying; it also carries a lot of culture. It is not limited to samba schools with women dancing almost naked, nor just to blocks where men dress up as women. There are traditional cultural manifestations, such as groups of caretas, people who wear masks and go out into the streets scaring and interacting with those enjoying Carnival. There are also several cultural street bands, such as those formed by artists on stilts, who put on a show of their own and enchant the audience.
However, even with all this commotion, I still prefer to stay at home or go somewhere far away from all this hustle and bustle. In the countryside or in contact with nature, to get away from it all.
O Carnaval não é feito apenas de festa; ele também carrega muita cultura. Não se resume às escolas de samba com mulheres dançando quase nuas, nem apenas a blocos em que homens se vestem de mulheres. Existem manifestações culturais tradicionais, como os grupos de caretas, pessoas que usam máscaras e saem pelas ruas assustando e interagindo com quem está curtindo o Carnaval. Há também diversos bloquinhos culturais, como aqueles formados por artistas sobre pernas de pau, que dão um espetáculo à parte e encantam o público.
Porém, mesmo diante de toda essa agitação eu ainda prefiro fica em casa ou sair para algum lugar longe de toda essa agitação. Na roça ou em contato com a natureza, para me retirar de tudo isso.
