Since the end of last year, I’ve been going through anxiety episodes, something I wasn’t used to experiencing so intensely. With my master’s degree and all the academic obligations tied to deadlines, projects, exams, and my dissertation proposal, everything started piling up. On top of that came life’s responsibilities, because bills don’t wait, and all of this ended up causing me a lot of anxiety.

While I was writing my proposal, I constantly found myself standing in front of the refrigerator looking for something to eat throughout the day. Because of that, in less than two months, I gained 5 kilos without even noticing. When I realized it, my clothes were already feeling tight.

Something similar had already happened during the pandemic, when I started dieting alongside my wife. We followed a low-carb diet, basically eating red meat, but for me the result was the opposite of what I expected, I just felt bloated.

Seeing that situation, I decided to start walking, running, and doing some outdoor physical exercises. Almost every morning I’ve been waking up early to work out.

This morning, while walking through the neighborhood near my house, I came across a mangaba tree with some fruit on it. Mangaba juice is one of my favorites. On top of the tree, there were also some edible flowers, known around here as “flor-de-veado,” haha.

Desde o final do ano passado venho passando por crises de ansiedade, algo que eu não costumava sentir com tanta intensidade. Com o mestrado e as obrigações acadêmicas atreladas aos prazos — projetos, provas das disciplinas e a proposta de dissertação — tudo foi se acumulando. Isso, somado às responsabilidades da vida, porque os boletos não esperam, acabou me trazendo ansiedade.

Enquanto eu escrevia minha proposta, a toda hora eu me via em frente à geladeira procurando algo para comer, durante todo o dia. Dessa forma, em menos de dois meses, acabei ganhando 5 quilos sem nem perceber. Quando notei, minhas roupas já estavam apertadas.

Algo parecido já havia acontecido durante a pandemia, quando comecei a fazer dieta para acompanhar minha esposa. Seguimos uma dieta low carb, basicamente comendo carne vermelha, mas comigo o resultado foi o contrário do esperado: eu apenas inchei.

Percebendo essa situação, resolvi começar a caminhar, correr e fazer alguns exercícios físicos ao ar livre. Quase toda manhã tenho acordado cedo para me exercitar.

Hoje pela manhã, caminhando pelo loteamento perto de casa, me deparei com uma mangabeira carregada com alguns frutos. A mangaba tem um dos meus sucos favoritos. Além disso, no topo da árvore havia algumas flores comestíveis — conhecidas por aqui como flor-de-veado, rsrsrs.
