Today was my first day back at the university after two weeks away from academic life. I took that time to rest a bit — maybe even more than I should have. Over the past few weeks, I had been rushing to finish two scientific papers before the deadline — one about fault research in an electric car and the other related to my master’s degree, in the same field but with a different approach. In the end, everything worked out, but now it feels like that time off allowed a few pending tasks to pile up.

I also had a meeting with my advisor to discuss the progress of my work. And honestly, being away made me realize that both my research and my master’s project are a little behind schedule. It happens, but getting back into the rhythm always takes some extra effort.

After the meeting, on my way to the university’s academic exhibition fair, I came across a garden that made me stop for a few minutes. The plants immediately caught my attention: large, vibrant leaves full of contrast — some green with small white and pink spots, others almost entirely white with striking green veins. In the middle of the campus rush, it was impossible not to notice how beautiful they were. I ended up taking a few photos because I was impressed by how much they stood out in the space.

Later, I walked through a few booths to see the projects the students were presenting. One of the most interesting ones was a low-cost digital stethoscope connected to a smartphone, designed for lung and heart auscultation. The system records the audio through an app and can assist both healthcare professionals and students.

What I found most interesting was its educational application: instead of performing auscultation on a patient multiple times, a single recording can be shared with the entire class. In the end, it was a day of reconnecting with the university — with research, with ideas, and also with the unexpected beauty that appears along the way between one activity and another.

Hoje foi dia de voltar à universidade depois de duas semanas longe do ambiente acadêmico. Tirei esse tempo para descansar um pouco, talvez até mais do que deveria. Nas últimas semanas eu estava correndo para finalizar dois artigos científicos antes do prazo final — um sobre pesquisa de falhas em um carro elétrico e outro ligado ao meu mestrado, na mesma área, mas com outra abordagem. No fim deu tudo certo, mas a sensação agora é de que o descanso acabou deixando algumas pendências acumularem.

Também tive reunião com meu orientador para discutir o andamento do trabalho. E a verdade é que esse tempo afastado me fez perceber que tanto a pesquisa quanto o mestrado estão um pouco atrasados. Faz parte, mas voltar ao ritmo exige sempre aquele esforço extra.

Saindo da reunião e indo em direção à feira de exposições acadêmicas da universidade, me deparei com um jardim que me fez parar por alguns minutos. As plantas chamaram atenção logo de cara: folhas grandes, vibrantes, cheias de contraste — algumas verdes com pequenas manchas brancas e rosadas, outras quase totalmente brancas desenhadas por nervuras verdes. No meio da correria do campus, foi impossível não notar a beleza delas. Acabei registrando algumas fotos porque achei impressionante como se destacavam no ambiente.

Depois passei por alguns stands para ver os trabalhos apresentados pelos alunos. Um dos projetos que mais achei interessante foi o de um estetoscópio digital de baixo custo conectado ao celular, voltado à ausculta pulmonar e cardíaca. O sistema grava o áudio pelo aplicativo e auxilia tanto profissionais quanto estudantes da área da saúde.

O mais interessante é a aplicação didática: em vez de repetir a ausculta várias vezes no paciente, um único sinal pode ser gravado e compartilhado com toda a turma. No fim, foi um dia de reencontro com a universidade — com a pesquisa, com as ideias e também com a beleza inesperada que aparece no caminho entre uma atividade e outra.
