The Trained Eye: Expanding Artistic Perception ESP/ENG

The capacity to observe art is a capacity that not everyone has. In fact, many people do not understand artistic expression, and the way to educate this vision is much more complicated than it seems. Depending on the person and how much or how little they have trained this capacity, they understand artistic expression as one thing or another that, for artists, has nothing to do with it.

La capacidad de observar el arte es una capacidad que no todos tenemos. De hecho, muchas personas no comprenden la expresión artística y la forma de educar esta vista es mucho más complicada de lo que parece. Según qué persona y lo mucho o poco que haya entrenado esta capacidad, entienden la expresión artística como una cosa o otra que para los artistas nada tiene que ver.

There are forms of expression that are much easier to grasp than others. Performance art, for example, seems to me to be one of the most complicated to understand and is also one of the most controversial. Before, I didn't see much value in this form, but today I observe it differently.

Hay formas de expresión que son mucho más sencillas de agarrar que otras. El arte performance, por ejemplo, me parece de las más complicadas de entender y es también de las más controversiales. Antes no le veía mucho valor a esta forma, pero hoy en día lo observo de forma diferente.

Dance, for me, has greatly changed the perspective from which I can contemplate expression and has made me more sensitive to all forms of expression. Initially, it was hard for me to feel what dance expressed from the performance perspective, but seeing it today is immensely gratifying and fulfilling for me.

La danza para mí me ha cambiado mucho la perspectiva de la cual puedo contemplar la expresión y me ha vuelto más sensible a todas las formas de expresión. Y en un inicio me costaba sentir lo que la danza expresaba desde la perspectiva del performance, pero verla para mí hoy es sumamente gratificante y pleno.

I believe we should all have more access to the arts and their different branches. My daughters have had many experiences where we have participated since they were small, and I know that in the future, they will understand it faster than it was for me. But not everyone has that same opportunity.

Creo que todos deberíamos tener más acceso a las artes y sus vertientes. Mis hijas han tenido desde pequeñas muchas experiencias donde hemos participado, y sé que en el futuro lo van a comprender más rápido de lo que fue para mí. Pero no todos tenemos esa misma oportunidad.
